…Invasion Tactical Defense lets you save the world?

Invasion Tactical Defense

Invasion Tactical Defense is an impressively complex Flash game where your goal is to protect a nuclear factory from an attacking alien race.

To play, you buy cannons, upgrade the factory, and deploy personnel.

Sounds simple, right?

Well, it’s not.

Thankfully, the game’s designers have added in plenty of settings to tweak and tune as you try to find the right mix, and even then it’s not an easy win, so give it a shot and see what you can do.

The world depends on it.

…Beauty pageants are dangerous?

Ingrid Marie RiveraThis story is almost too good to be true: During this year’s Miss Puerto Rico pageant, Ingrid Marie Rivera managed to win, despite having her gown and make-up spiked with pepper spray.

Though composed onstage, Marie had to run backstage and strip off her clothes to apply ice bags to her face and body as she swelled up and broke out in hives twice during the competition.

Need a bit of extra excitement to add to the movie script?

Due to a bomb threat, officials had already postponed the last day of the pageant to ensure everyone’s safety.

Who knew the world of beauty could be so deadly?

…The World’s Dirtiest Film is finished?

David Spade’s The World’s Dirtiest Film is now finished, and features his own footage combined with the footage that was sent in by coeds across the country.

I wouldn’t exactly call it high-class entertainment, but it gets the job done for Axe, so I guess it’s a winner.

…Crates are everywhere?

CratesSince the early ‘80s, game designers have faced one question: Where can I hide health and ammo?

The answer was, of course, the crate! (And the crate’s circular cousin, the barrel.)

Unfortunately, this crate method of hiding supplies soon became the norm, and even great games began to suffer from excessive creating.

To determine which games have the best Start to Crate (StC) number (higher is better), Old Man Murray played through 26 games to see how long it takes to find a crate in each. (The shortest amount of time it takes a player to reach the first crate represents the point where the developers ran out of ideas.)

While one game managed to make it one hundred and twenty seconds without showing a crate, most fell in the five seconds or less category, and many even showed crates from the very beginning.

Thankfully, it’s not a crate emergency, though it is interesting to see just how widespread this problem is.

Can’t they just hide the ammo under a potted plant or something?

…Paint chips can be beautiful?

Belmont Art Park Paint Chip

This beautiful piece of paint chip was part of the Belmont Art Park wall that was illegally demolished by real estate developers earlier this year.

At over 1 centimeter thick, it appears to consist of 150-200 layers of paint, and shows what happens when you ‘just paint over it’.

…The Amazon Kindle needs more bookishness?

Amazon Kindle

When Amazon designed the Kindle, they wanted it to have “an aura of bookishness”.

Unfortunately, these bookishness dreams did not transfer over into the actual design, as the Kindle is filled with style for the sake of style, unusual proportions, senseless shapes, and a general lack of bookishness.

Click the link for a full breakdown of how Amazon missed the mark, and how they can change it for Kindle 2.0.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Lamborghini Jalpa?

Lamborghini Jalpa

With only 255 horses on tap, the Lamborghini Jalpa was not known to be the fastest of bulls. However, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for improvement.

The Jalpa that you see here, owned by a Lamborghini enthusiast with a big dream and a bigger wallet, was the beneficiary of a twin turbo implant from a Mitsubishi 3000GT, and has apparently shown a few Murcielago owners a thing or two on the track.

Sleeper and Lamborghini in the same sentence?

Apparently so.

…CCTV helps make great films?

CCTV film making is an interesting concept that lends itself well to filming alternative and sometimes illegal activities like free-running.

By “video sniffing” the signal from wireless CCTV networks, filmmakers are able to capture the images from these existing cameras and use them for their own creative vision.

This film, called The Duellists, was shot inside of a shopping center using the central control room’s 160 cameras over the course of three nights:

It’s not exactly the highest of quality, but sometimes, low budget is the way to go.

…Motorcycles are small?

Monster Cycle

Why would anyone spend three years building an 11-foot tall, 20-foot long, 10.5-foot wide motorcycle that weighs 6,500 pounds?

Why not?

Gregory Dunham is the man behind this ‘world’s tallest rideable motorcycle’, and has spent over $300,000 bringing his dream to life.

Plus, with a 502 cubic inch big block powering this beast to a top speed of 65 mph, it’s a ride that can keep up with traffic while everyone stops to stare.
