That RS1800 looks lovely! There's just something about an old school ride tearing up the track that gets my heart going. :)

(Though times for that rally driver by the way!)

Heh, now that's nice, but I was thinking old school 1980's with the MkIIs and RS2000's

Check out the drifting on the MkII (It really kicks off around 1.18mins)

I really identify with the Hampster here "I wanted one!!!" (Yeah it's an RS1800 but it still F*%$ing rocks.

And finally, because let's face it we watch rallies for the crashes...

I LOVE the old school Escort rally cars. A race prepped RS200 would be just about the baddest beast on the block: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5f/Ford_RS200.jpg

You wouldn't really need to deck it out aesthetically even, just paint in BR Green or jaffa and give it some white stripes and you have yourself a sweet looking drive. To be honest, just giving it a few tweaks would be sufficient. The Ghia was a 1.3 and the RS2000 was a 1.8 (0-60 in around 8.7 which ain't to be sneezed at). Mark I's were one of the most sucessful rally cars of their time, with MII's following suit. Some googling tells me the top speed was 109mph but I know for a fact they can go faster ;)

As much as I love classic American Iron, I would also love a hopped up compact like the Escort. Just deck it out in rally trim and race it around the country for a sure to be good time.

I've always felt that with enough hand brake and a willingness to bust parts, any car can be fun. (Even a 309) :)

I'm incredibly and insanely jealous.

I love American Muscle cars and I adored the Dodge Challenger in 2F2F, (if it came with Paul Walker instead of annoying Tyrese it would have been even better - woman thing ;)) but since I'm in the UK the closest I'm ever going to get to anything like that is if I win the lottery and get one imported, so instead I'm trying to track down a MkII Escort and just beef it up a bit.

My first car was a Peugeot 309 - how naff is that? but since they were popular in rally circles in the late 80's I made it my business to test out it's abilities. Road handling and speed is bloody good for something that only has 1.3 engine.

My first car was a 1965 Mustang, so I share your love for the "solid/metal" vehicles.

I think modern logos are the result of car companies' desires to be as futuristic as possible. Besides, throw a few Photoshop filters on it, and it becomes 3D! ;)

It's kind of weird - the ones I recognise most are the ones from the 70's and 80's back when I was a kid and helping my dad with his never ending auto collection. I prefer those ones, they look more solid somehow, more *metal*.

Maybe I'm biased, but why do all the modern logos have some crass 3D light effect on them all. Makes them look less like someone has put any thought into them and more 'just whack it through photoshop and see what comes out.'
