…It’s Website Wednesday: Naked & Angry?

Naked & Angry

Naked & Angry is skinnyCorp’s latest venture (the guys behind Threadless) and they’re hoping to take Threadless’ success and expand it into other areas of design.

Their stated goal of Naked & Angry is “to create high quality products from patterns submitted and chosen by the brand’s audience”.

Anyone can come to Naked & Angry and submit a pattern design to be voted on by other Naked & Angry users. The design will be scored for 14 days at which time it will be given a final score. The highest scoring designs will be manufactured and products will be created inspired by the patterns. The winners will receive a $750 cash prize and 1 free Naked & Angry item.

Their first series of objects was a set of silk neckties, and they’ve now moved on to hand screened wallcoverings, so you can see that the product line is going to be diverse. Apparently their plans include everything from ties and tops to pillows and belts to socks and sweaters to wallpaper, so if you can put a pattern on it, Naked & Angry will turn it into a competition.

New patterns will be chosen every season, and the goal is 5-15 various new items at a time.

Will Naked & Angry ever equal the success of Threadless?

My guess would be no, because I can’t imagine that the market for neckties and wallpaper is nearly as big as the market for t-shirts, but regardless, it seems like a great idea, and a great place to check out if you’re looking for something really unique with a handmade touch.

…Edo Competition tried their luck on the Ferrari Enzo?

Edo Competition Ferrari Enzo

For Edo Competition, nothing is sacred.

The latest car to go under their knife is the Ferrari Enzo, and despite the fact that many Ferrari purists would argue that the Enzo is perfection embodied, Edo would disagree.

Changes include a new ram-air intake system, high-flow air filters, FXX style headers, high-flowing cats, a new exhaust system with remote-controlled butterfly valves to adjust sound levels on the fly, and a modified ECU that helps power levels reach 700 hp and 527 lb.-ft. of torque.

That power is then moved through a retuned transmission that replicates the shift times of the FXX bretherin, and then out through the 19 and 20 inch blacked out rims that are an Edo special.

Suspension has also seen some improvements, with compression and rebound that have been adjusted to match the FIA GT MC12.

According to Edo, 62 mph is now dispatched in just 3.5 seconds, and the car will reach 186 mph in just 22 seconds.

I guess even perfection has some room for improvement!

…Stewie Griffin has been untooned?

Pixeloo’s latest untooning is Stewie Griffin, and it’s equally if not more creepy than the first few:

I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!

…Humans are amazing?

I was trying to explain to someone how incredible I think the fact that we landed the Phoenix rover on the surface of Mars is, and was unfortunately coming up short for words.

However, I think this picture does it pretty good justice:

Phoenix Parachute

Not much to see, eh?

Well, think about this: What you’re seeing is a photo of the Phoenix rover as it descends to the surface of Mars under its own parachute. The photo was taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter’s HiRISE camera as it circles a planet that is tens to hundreds of millions of miles away. As it circles that planet, it’s tracking and photographing a man made object that is gracefully touching down onto the surface of that planet under the guide of its own parachute. Both objects are acting remotely and robotically, and then sending their data back to earth at the speed of light (and it still takes 15 minutes to get here). In short: We created a remote controlled vehicle, shot it millions of miles into the sky, landed it on a precise location on another planet, and then programmed it to run its own scientific experiments and then report back to us with the results.

See what I mean?

Also, if you’d like to keep track of the rover, follow it on Twitter: http://twitter.com/MarsPhoenix

(What I like most about the Phoenix Twitter is that it’s probably one of the smartest people in the world (a NASA scientist) that has to dumb down what he’s saying and then put it into the third person so that the rest of us can understand what’s going on. Somewhere there’s a guy sitting in a room that’s hating life and wondering when he can leave his Twitter post and get back to playing with the world’s coolest remote control car.)

…Michel Fournier is one crazy jumper?

Michel Fournier - The Great Leap

If all goes according to plan, Michel Fournier will complete a two decade and $20 million long journey today to balloon into the upper reaches of the atmosphere and then skydive back down in what he’s calling Le Grad Saut, or, The Great Leap.

His leap begins on the ground, where he will load into a 10 foot tall pressurized gondola that will hang from the bottom of a 650-foot balloon. This balloon will take him to a height of 130,000 feet (25 miles) over the course of two-hours, at which point he will open the door and step into the blackness of space.

To survive the fall, which will last for a full 15 minutes, he’s going to be wearing a special space suit and a parachute that is designed to automatically deploy when he’s 5,000 feet above the ground.

Along the way, he will reach, and then cross the speed of sound. (And then top out at a speed of around 1,000 MPH) If that sounds crazy, it is. Scientists are still unsure of what will happen when a person crosses the sound barrier unaided.

With those speeds, Fournier will also be breaking four new records: fastest free fall, longest free fall, highest altitude for a human balloon flight and highest parachute jump.

So what are the potential risks?

If his suit fails, the pressure would cause his blood could boil, and he would loose consciousness in less than five seconds. (Which sounds like a blessing if your blood is boiling during those five seconds!)

His first try was yesterday, and was canceled due to weather related complications, so let’s hope that today provides Michel with smoother sailing, and that he finds his way back to Earth in one piece!

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: BMW M5 Ute?

BMW M5 Ute

I’m going to have to agree with Stuart Appleby on this one: To say that his project is “a bit out of left field” is one hell of an understatement.

His goal: To turn a BMW E39 M5 into a “ute” by chopping off the back end and custom fabing the rest to make it work.

He’s definitely going for creativity points with this one!

Thankfully, he’s sharing both his decision making process, and his progress online, so you can follow along as one of BMW’s best cars gets turned into one of BMW’s only trucks.

It might not be for everyone, but for Stuart, it’s a dream come true.

…It’s Movie Monday: The Internet Party 2?

The Internet Party was good, but when MySpace needed an intervention, The Internet Party 2 got even better:

…Kobe Bryant has skills?

Kobe Bryant is on a roll!

After jumping over an Aston Martin in his new Nike Hyperdunks:

He then joined the Jackass cast, and dunked over a pool full of black mambas:

…Weezer likes pork and beans?

Apparently someone in Weezer knows a thing or two about viral marketing, because their video for Pork and Beans, which features many of the Internet’s most famous viral video stars doing what they do best, has been passed around the Internet like the plague this past week. In case you missed it:

…The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is awesome?

It’s not like you needed another reason to want a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, but if you’d like to further solidify the awesomeness of this car in your mind, check out this video of what it can do in the hands of Sam Hubinette:
