…It’s Things Thursday: 1333 Minna?

1333 Minna

If you’re looking for a unique fitted hat that combines contemporary urban style and aesthetic with old world craftsmanship and precision, then look no further than 1333 Minna.

1333 Minna is part of the Goorin Brothers hatmakers group, and “is an evolving alliance of artists and designers based in the heart of San Francisco. Each seasonal collection is crafted form fine fabrics adorned with custom patterns and inspired illustrations”.

This spring, the collection is designed by Reyes, Steel, Retna, and The Mac, all members of the world famous seventh letter crew. Each item is designed to challenge the limits of traditional design, while telling the stories of the artists through color, texture, and patterns.

There’s no denying that hats like these take a bold style to pull off right, but if that’s your thing, then 1333 Minna is for you.

…It’s Things Thursday: Modofly?

Modofly Moleskin

Modofly is an artist collaborative that hopes to “inspire artists and users alike with the hope that they themselves will be continually fueled by the feedback loop that happens when people work together”.

Their laser-etched Moleskin notebook line features fantastic covers that have been designed by top artists, and then laser-etched onto the outside to help fuel your creativity.

Since artists mostly fueled the Moleskin revolution anyways, why not just get one that makes the outside look as good as the creativity trapped inside?

…It’s Website Wednesday: Muxtape?

Muxtape

Muxtape is “a simple way to create and share mixtapes”.

It’s goal is to bring back the joy of laboring over a mixtape for hours to get everything just right, and does so by only letting you create one mix per account, and limiting your mix to just 12 songs. (Each no larger than 10 megabytes.)

When you’re done, the music is then streamed through your browser, so it’s not exactly a file sharing service, but since the only way Muxtape prevents copyrighted music from being uploaded is with a meek little warning: “By uploading a song you agree that you have permission to let Muxtape use it.” I’m guessing Muxtape is going to be dealing with a few high priced lawyers in its near future.

Regardless, it’s a nice (and simple) service that has some potential to help undiscovered artists get their start, and it relies on the “sharing is caring” motto, so I hope some sort of agreement is made to keep Muxtape around.

…Grand Theft Auto IV has official box art?

Grand Theft Auto IV Cover

To officially reveal the box art for Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar put a bunch of artists in a warehouse and had them create a giant poster of the new cover.

It’s a time lapse that’s shot in HD, so you know that it’s going to be good. (And that it’s going to get posted here.)

…Ugly money can be beautiful?

Homer Front

Homer Back

Since 1998, Johnny Bitter, owner of Johnny Burrito, has been collecting funny money that has come across his counter from “unsung artists, poets, philosophers & pundits” who use national currency as a medium. His collection includes bills that have been drawn on, written on, mutilated, stamped, and even the occasional coin. I wonder how much some of this art would cost.

…Meat and Potatoes make good shirts?

Meat and Potatoes

Meat and Potatoes is “a collaboration of artists with freshly conceived, tasty ideas, packaged in very limited numbers”. Each limited edition t-shirt is hand silkscreened, then packaged in a meat tray with a numbered 6” x 8” print of the artwork included. Plus, a portion of the sales are donated to various food charities, because if you’re getting your fill of Meat and Potatoes, so should those less fortunate. Their designs are definitely cool and unique, and their packaging can’t be beat, so add a little Meat and Potatoes to your fashion menu the next time you order.
