First he jumped his car more than 171 feet. Then, he jumped his car off of a ski slope next to a group of snowboarders. Now, Ken Block is showing off his skills in a demonstration of a sport called Gymkhana, and it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of automotive cinema ever created.
For those (like myself) that have never heard of Gymkhana (pronounced jim-kah-nuh), it’s “an automotive sport taking place on an open field or a parking lot requiring drivers to skillfully maneuver their cars around a series of cones, slaloms, 180 degree turns, 360 degree turns, figure eight turns or other obstacles using extreme acceleration, braking and drifting”.
Most people love their iPhone (myself included) but there are still a few lingering (and major) faults that owners wish Steve would fix.
To help document that wish list, FullSIX has created Please Fix The iPhone, a beautiful looking site that lets you vote on problems that need to be fixed, add your own, and see what wishes Apple has granted.
There’s even an iPhone optimized version of the site if you want to keep it pure.
Though you will probably never know if Apple is actually listening to this list, it’s at least somewhat comforting to know that thousands of other iPhone fans around the world just want a little bit of copy/paste as well.
Hulger’s PAPPA*PHONE brings a touch of class to the VoIP telephone.
Cut from a single solid piece of American walnut (so that the grain of the wood flows from the handset to the base), each PAPPA*PHONE is handmade by Furni, and also incorporates a piece of solid hand-polished brass into the design, as well as laser etched details.
Since it works with all VoIP services (Skype, iChat, GoogleTalk, Vonage, Yahoo, etc.) and is plug-and-play compatible with both the Mac and PC, it’s as easy to use as it is beautiful.
EepyBird, the two man team that brought you the Diet Coke and Mentos Experiment, is back in the lab, and this time they’ve teamed up with ABC’s Samurai Girl to bring you The Extreme Sticky Note Experiments:
Though it’s not as surprising as the Diet Coke and Mentos video, it’s definitely impressive/beautiful, makes you look at Sticky Notes in a whole new light.
The Iconic Motors GTR is the Cobra that Carroll Shelby would probably build today if he had the time and the wealthy client list.
For $600,000, buyers get a carbon fiber supercar that features an 800 horsepower, 420-cubic-inch V8, a very beautiful/custom interior, a display with “military strike fighter” technology, and a “computerized gas cap that slides open like the glass on a moon roof”.
In September of ’06, Vanity Fair changed the format of their opening to the Vanities section to feature a full-page, 50s-style pinup of an up-and-coming star.
These shapely ingénues are on the cusp of fame or have just hit it big; they have names you need to know and faces you won’t have trouble remembering.
Thankfully, they’ve taken those beautiful photos and turned them into an online slideshow for your viewing pleasure.
There’s nothing more American than getting together at the local fairgrounds and smacking some old cars together for the entertainment of others.
However, when you slow this Redneck rumble down and view a demolition derby in super slow motion, it turns into a ballet of metal and mayhem that’s actually rather beautiful to watch:
Plus, watching in slow motion as cars literally mount one another adds just enough cringe to make it enjoyable at the expense of others.
When you slow down the movements of a skateboarder as he goes through a set of tricks, the intricacy of each move, and the difficulty of each moment become apparent like never before.
By shooting at 120 frames per second using the new RED camera, Opus Magnum Productions was able to create this beautiful film, called simply: “Skate”.
Got Milk?’s latest informational site is a fantastic looking papercraft-esque factory that cranks out milk flavors like Gladiator Formulator (for help with muscle rebuilding), Zen Again (for help with PMS), Holy Molar (for help with cavities) and Shut Eye Battle Cry (for help with sleep).
On the site, you can learn all about milk’s health benefits, find recipes, learn about the Got Milk? brand history, and more.
If nothing else though, definitely check it out for the fantastic use of Flash that makes the site so beautiful.
The StreetArtLocator (v2) helps you locate street art near you. (Considering the name, the obviousness of that statement is not lost on me…)
With specific tags for graffiti, galleries, paintings, stickers, stencils, sculptures, and installations, it’s a Google Map powered guide to the beautiful art that’s all around you for controversially public consumption.
Just click on your area to see both a location and a picture of the street art that has been spotted and documented. Then, if you’re out and about and come across something that you’d like to share, just snap a pic and add it to the database to help those around you enjoy your find as well.
