…Volcom wants you to kickflip a surfboard?

Kickflip-Off

If snowboarding is not your thing, then perhaps you can win some of Volcom’s cash during their Kickflip-Off contest.

Apparently, no one has ever documented a cleanly landed kickflip on a surfboard, so Volcom is going to give away $10,000 to the first person that can do it, and get it on video.

I, for one, would like to see it, so if you’ve got the surfing skills, then get out there and show your stuff, because kickflip glory awaits.

…Burton wants you to steal the slopes?

Sabotage StupidityIf you’re in Mad River Glen, VT, Deer Valley, UT, Alta, UT, or Taos, NM, you’re not allowed on the slopes unless you can separate your skis.

That’s because these four ski resorts are the last remaining holdouts in the battle against snowboarding, as they refuse to allow anyone but skiers to ride their lifts.

What’s a boarder to do?

Poach.

Burton is sponsoring a contest called Poach For Freedom (or Sabotage Stupidity, since I like both) in which they will pay a $5,000 bounty to the person or crew that can capture the best video of their poach experience at each of these four locations.

I love when a large company does or encourages something that they’re not supposed to, as it gives them a bit of personality that’s often lost in this overly corporate world (and I’m a snowboarder), so I hope that they get some great footage of teams tearing up these territorial terrains.

Board on.

…Photoshop skills can win you a Mac?

Mac Pro With Dual 30” Cindma Displays

Are you a Photoshop whiz who needs a new computer?

How about a new Mac Pro with dual 30” Cindma Displays?

Got your interest?

The check out Crestock’s Photoshop Contest 2007 for your chance to win, fame, fortune, and a whole lotta Mac.

There are four rounds in total, and each round’s prize is better than the last. There’s a pair of iPods for round one, a 13” MacBook for round two, a 15” MacBook Pro for round three, and the Mac Pro and Cinema Displays combo for round four.

Crestock Photoshop Contest Round One

For each round, Crestock will supply a set of source photos from their image library. Your entry must be based on one or several of those photos, though you can do with them what you like. The main requirement is that one or more of the source images can be recognized as a central part of your design. Then, there’s voting (40% public, 60% judges) and a winner is announced.

Want some help?

“The winning entry will have incredible visual impact and exhibit fantastic creativity and technical skill, perhaps also with a twist of humor. Amaze us or make us laugh – or both. It’s up to you and your skills, creativity and imagination, but whatever you do, don’t miss out on the action!”

Sounds like good advice to me.

…Pumpkins are good for racing?

Pumpkin BoatEver wonder what they do with the giant pumpkins that compete in contests after they do the weigh-in?

I had always assumed that they made a ginormous pumpkin pie, but apparently, some crafty pumpkineers have turned the gourds into hollowed out Halloween rafts that they can then race down the river.

It’s like a Master Craft-o’-lantern.

…The Savage Chickens have been animated?

Savage Chicken

Laura Veirs wanted a music video for her new album, called Saltbreakers, so she created a contest, and opened up to artists for submissions.

The winner was this stop-motion film of the Savage Chickens by Doug Savage, and considering the stolen status of the Bravia Bunnies ad, this just might be my favorite new piece of stop motion.

…Gnuf uses large dice?

World’s Greatest Dice Roll

To promote their new gambling site, Gnuf created the world’s greatest dice roll, using two giant dice (each is over two meters tall and weights over half a ton) that were airlifted with a helicopter and then rolled them down the side of an ice-packed, snow-capped mountain.

The goal is simple: Guess what number they landed on, and you can win an eight-day trip to Greenland.

…It’s TGI Friday: The Swag Bag?

The Swag Bag

For today’s TGI Friday, I’m going to give away the first of what I’m going to call ‘The Swag Bag’. (If I can find a way of doing this on a regular basis.)

The Swag Bag will be filled with various things from various companies, and though it might not have a high financial value, it will be free, so no complaining.

This weeks bag features Mimoco and Design By Humans.

To enter, just comment on this post with one thing that you either like or don’t like about DYH.

On Sunday, I’ll randomly select one of the comments, and that author will win the bag. (Keep in mind that to ship this, I will need your address, so you must be willing to give that up; though I won’t know the difference between a real and a fake name, so you can at least keep that one a secret if you wish.)

Now stop reading and start commenting!

…You can either innovate, or you can die?

Innovate Or DieGoogle and Specialized have teamed up to create Innovate or Die, a Pedal-Powered Machine Contest that challenges you to create “an unheard-of, unprecedented pedal-powered machine, build it, and film it.

The only requirement is that the energy generated by the invention has human pedal-power as the original source.

The idea is to bring attention to innovation for the environment, and to show what can be done with a little manpower.

The best bike design earns the creator $5,000, and the top five finalists get a free bike.

Pedal Power!
