…Bicycle races are dangerous?

Bicycle Car Crash

This has got to be one of the craziest pictures ever!

What you see here is the crash that killed one and left 10 others injured after the driver, who apparently had been using cocaine before this crash, fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into a bicycle race taking place in Monterrey, Mexico.

There really isn’t anything else to say besides “Wow!” and “Pay attention when driving near a bicycle race!”

Unintentional Stuntmen

Motive Magazine has put together a fantastic top ten list of YouTube rally crash videos that show why keeping your car rubber side down isn’t always a possibility when things start to get crazy.

…John Mayer’s iTunes crashes too?

John Mayer Apple Crash Report

Apparently John Mayer’s talents extend beyond the musical arena from time to time, because when his iTunes crashed as he was trying to load it up with new running music to replace “Bittersweet Symphony” with, he typed out one of the best crash reports I’d imagine anyone at Apple has ever seen.

Want to take bets on how long it takes Apple to get back to him?

…Caffeine can help you nap better?

Caffeine Nap

If you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up, try taking a caffeine nap.

Here’s how:

  1. Right before you crash, down a cup of java. The caffeine has to travel through your gastro-intestinal tract, giving you time to nap before it kicks in.
  2. Close your eyes and relax. Even if you only doze, you’ll get what’s known as effective microsleep, or momentary lapses of wakefulness.
  3. Limit your nap to 15 minutes. A half hour can lead to sleep inertia, or the spinning down of the brain’s prefrontal cortex, which handles functions like judgment. This gray matter can take 30 minutes to reboot.

The motorsports world lost an icon today, when rally legend Colin McRae was killed after a helicopter that he was piloting crashed, killing both Colin and his five year-old son.

RIP Colin, you will be missed.

…Eddie Griffin crashed a Ferrari Enzo?

Ferrari Enzo Eddie Murphy Crash

Actor/Comedian (though apparently not /Driver) Eddie Griffin was rehearsing for a charity racing event today when he lost control of his FERRARI ENZO (yes, a $643,330 Ferrari Enzo, one of only 399 to ever see pavement) and crashed it into a barrier. Thankfully, and yet sadly, the entire thing was caught on tape, so click through if you have a strong stomach for automotive carnage (Eddie was unhurt, though the car can’t say the same).

…Rally crashes are crazy?

Though it’s fun watching rally cars careen around a track, clipping apexes and sliding through the impossible with a grace and a style that few can master, the real fun of watching rally cars, and probably the reason that most people watch, are the crashes. When it all goes so wrong is when watching goes so right. The crashing, the smashing, and sometimes the falling are all just a split second and a missed decision away, and that’s what keeps it interesting. This crash takes the cake though. I’ll bet the driver of the Peugeot wrote one heck of a thank you to the guy who welded in his safety cage.

…Top Gear built a space shuttle?

Top Gear Rocket

Top Gear, the very popular British automentary (television documentary about autos), stands by the motto “Go big or go home”.Recently Richard Hammond, one of the show’s presenters, was seriously injured after crashing a rocket-powered car at over 300 MPH.

Now, their latest debacle was an attempt at building and launching a space shuttle out of a Reliant Robin (a car not found in the US). The goal was to launch the car, and then glide it back down to the ground via remote control, though that’s not exactly what happened. (Skip to about 2:29 left in the video if you just want to see the good stuff).

…Richard Hammond is one lucky man?

Richard Hammond

This is what Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond’s jet-car looked like in the middle of him crashing it at 288 mph. It’s amazing that he survived at all, let alone that he has almost fully recovered from the crash that happened only five months ago. Time to hit Vegas with luck like that.

…It’s Movie Monday: Redline?

Redline Poster

Porsche Carrera GT Wreck

They could take out all of the actors and just have a bunch of cars driving around and I still think I’d want to go see Redline. Described as The Fast and The Furious for exotics, this Daniel Sadek creation is a who’s who of the supercar world, including Ferrari, Saleen, Koenigsegg, Ford, Lamborghini, Mercedes, McLaren, and Porsche. Though I’m sure the acting by such greats as Eddie Griffin, Nathan Phillips and Nadia Bjorlin will be nothing short of Oscar worthy, it’s all about the car porn anyways. Plus, they even manage to wreck a perfectly good Porsche Carrera GT at some point in the plot line. Set for a February 23rd release date, this is going to be the car movie of 2007. Fear Nothing, Risk Everything.
