CarType is “a comprehensive collection of emblems, car company histories and logos, reviews of typographical and graphical applications, design features and just about anything that is car related.”
What’s interesting is that instead of the typical reviews that most car sites feature, CarType instead focuses on the design elements that go into the cars that we see everyday, including emblems, vents, body lines and more.

The web might be a computer based place, but many of the designs for the sites that you use daily started out as simple pen on paper drawings in a boardroom or bar napkin.
Deeplinking has gathered up some of these initial concepts sketches, and there’s something about seeing the roots of highly used sites laid out before you like a dinosaur skeleton that brings the beasts back down to reality.

Naked & Angry is skinnyCorp’s latest venture (the guys behind Threadless) and they’re hoping to take Threadless’ success and expand it into other areas of design.
Their stated goal of Naked & Angry is “to create high quality products from patterns submitted and chosen by the brand’s audience”.
Their first series of objects was a set of silk neckties, and they’ve now moved on to hand screened wallcoverings, so you can see that the product line is going to be diverse. Apparently their plans include everything from ties and tops to pillows and belts to socks and sweaters to wallpaper, so if you can put a pattern on it, Naked & Angry will turn it into a competition.
New patterns will be chosen every season, and the goal is 5-15 various new items at a time.
Will Naked & Angry ever equal the success of Threadless?
My guess would be no, because I can’t imagine that the market for neckties and wallpaper is nearly as big as the market for t-shirts, but regardless, it seems like a great idea, and a great place to check out if you’re looking for something really unique with a handmade touch.
If you’re a flash drive fan, but Mimoco’s size limitation has prevented you from picking up one of their fantastic Mimobots, then get excited, because Mimoco has just announced the availability of their new line of 8GB drives.
Each Mimobot design currently available will now be offered in this new, larger size (up from a previous best of 4GB) and still carries the same great Mimoco content, just in a new, larger package with more room for your stuff.

Max Knight’s Walking Bike might not be much faster than just plain walking, but it sure does look cool.

Nike has designed an entire line of custom shoes for each sport in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
While that doesn’t seem like anything special, keep in mind that in addition to the usual sports like Track and Field and Basketball, sports like Gymnastics, Wushu, Kayaking, Wind Surfing, Taekwondo, Equestrian, and Fencing also need unique shoes to enhance the athlete’s abilities.

Popdeck is “the first design community just for skateboarders”.
Like Threadless, Popdeck lets designers upload their designs to the site, and then users can vote on them to select the winners. Unlike Threadless, winning designs end up becoming limited edition skateboard decks that probably aren’t as comfortable to wear as a t-shirt would be.
Each deck is hand numbered, and if you’re going to buy a board anyways, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want one that looks good and isn’t owned by every kid on the block.

Remember the Splinter, the all wood supercar that looked like nothing more than a clever design mock up?
Apparently it’s quite a bit more than that, as Joe Harmon Design has begun fabrication, and the body is already starting to take shape.
The car’s frame and driveline are based on a central rigid tube section with the suspension and other necessary parts from a C4 Corvette mounted to it. However, as much as possible will be kept in wood form for authenticity’s sake.
The engine is a Northstar V8 run backwards, with the exhaust and intake sides switched around. Intakes sit underneath the cylinder banks, and two roots style superchargers feed air in through individual intercoolers
The wooden component fabrication process includes building a mold/frame, and then laminating layers of veneer into the desired shape.

If you read DYH with any kind of regularity, then you’ve probably noticed that I’m a huge t-shirt fanatic. I own and wear far too many of them, but I can never get enough. I’m always on the lookout for new and unique shirts, and often when I find them, I post about them here.
However, I’ve wanted to start a separate t-shirt blog for quite some time now, so I’ve decided to do a little experiment to see if I can use Facebook to do it.
Thus, I’ve started a page on Facebook called “I Heart T-Shirts”, and I’m going to use it as a sort of mini-blog, posting about the latest t-shirt designs that I find and fall in love with.
If you’ve got a Facebook account, head on over to the page and check it out.
There, I’ve gathered up links to some of my favorite t-shirt stores, blogs and coupon codes, and I’m also going to be using the “Posted Items” area as a mini blog where I’ll share links to some of the newest and coolest designs out there.
To get this up and running though, it would be great to have people become fans of the page, which is why I’m going to be doing a giveaway on Sunday, May 11 to one random (and lucky) fan.
