…The Internet is having a balloon race?

Orange is hosting the World’s first Internet Balloon Race, and DidntYouHear is taking part.

I’ve entered P-Nut the raccoon into the race (you should be able to see him in the bottom left of the screen), and DidntYouHear.com is a destination that racers can stop at to earn “miles” during the race. Then, the person with the most miles at the end of the wins a trip to Ibiza.

If you’d like to participate in the race, just click on P-Nut and it should take you to the Orange site where you can sign up and get your own balloon to race.

Hurry though, because the race ends in just four days.

…DYH is in Chicago?

Chicago

I’m going on a work related trip to Chicago today, so DYH is going to be light on the updates, but in place of my normal posts, I’ve added tons of cool/great/awesome/semi-lame links from my “write about this one day” pile to the DidntYouHear.com Facebook Page.

If you haven’t already, be sure to become a fan of the page, since I’m going to try to use it more often as a place to put all of the interesting links that I find that I just don’t have time to write a full post about.

See you there!

…The Facebook Page is growing?

Facebook

Last week I announced the launch of the DidntYouHear.com Facebook Page, and since then, 25 people have already signed up to be fans, which is fantastic, so a big thanks to everyone who joined!

I also announced that I would be picking out one fan at random and giving them a $10 Amazon Gift Card, so thanks to the magic of Excel’s =rand() function, Alice Chang has been selected. Congratulations!

If you haven’t already done so, then check out the Facebook Page and click “Become a Fan”. I’ll be doing exclusive content and contests there just for the Facebook Fans, as well as adding games and more to interact with on the page, so it should be fun.

See you there!

…DYH is changing hosts?

Ahm bizzy sleepn.

Faithful DYH readers,

Good News: DidntYouHear.com is now on a new, and hopefully 20 times better host! (Full explanation of the reasons for the switch, along with impressions of the new host coming soon.)

Bad News: It took me over 6 hours to make the change, and now I need some sleep!

Thus, DYH is going to be a little lite on the updates today, but I’ll have some new stuff up ASAP, and the site should be fully functioning and normal again in about 24 hours. (For now, everything has to cycle through http://s18719.gridserver.com/)

Thanks for your understanding,

Cory

…It’s TGI Friday: Facebook?

Facebook

DidntYouHear.com is now on Facebook!

In an effort to find new, fun, and creative ways to promote the site, I’ve created a Facebook Page for DidntYouHear.com, and I’d love for you to check it out.

On the page, you’ll find a Facebook version of each post, along with a Discussion Board, a Wall, and a Graffiti area.

Though I’m not entirely sure what this page will become, I figure that it’s a great place for DYH readers to interact, and it can evolve into its own little community in time.

To get things started, I’m going to be doing a special giveaway to anyone who becomes a “Fan” of the page.

To enter, just click “Become a Fan” in the top right of the page, and then next Friday (March 7) I’ll select a random winner from among the fans, and award that person a $10 Amazon Gift Card (or something of equal value if Amazon isn’t exactly your thing).

I’m also looking for feedback, so feel free to contact me directly, or comment either on this post, or on the page with features that you’d like to see, general comments, or anything else that you can think of.

See you there!

…I’ve selected a winner?

Lazy Earth ChairLast Friday, I held a contest for a new description of DidntYouHear.com, and the submissions were fantastic!

Unfortunately, since DYH isn’t exactly pulling in the big bucks yet, I can’t give everyone a prize, and I have to pick a winner.

Thus, I’d like to say congratulations to evilgregg for coming up with the winning description:

The lazy man’s guide to the coolest stuff on the planet.

It’s short and sweet, and does a pretty good job of describing exactly what this site is all about. Thanks Gregg!

To everyone else who participated, I’d just like to say thanks for contributing, and I’m sorry I can’t give you all a prize, since you definitely deserve one.

…iPowerWeb is having a sale?

iPowerWeb, the hosting company that DidntYouHear.com has been using for almost a year now, is having what they say is their biggest sale ever. For just $4.95 per month, you get all of the fancy features that usually cost $7.95 per month, which works out to be almost a 40% discount. If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog or website of your own, now’s the time to do it if you want to save a little green along the way.

I’ve actually used iPowerWeb for more than two years with various sites that I have run, and I’ve always been happy with their service. They give you a generous amount of space and bandwidth, and their customer support is top notch. If you have any problems, you can be in touch with a real person in a matter of minutes at no extra charge. I definitely give iPowerWeb two of DYH’s thumbs up.

…DYH is rated G?

Online DatingAccording to Mingle, DidntYouHear.com is rated G for General Audiences because of the presence of the word “dick” one time on the first page. I’d say that’s pretty good considering the topics that get covered sometimes.

They’ll do MySpace, LiveJournal, and Facebook too if you’ve got one, so be sure to check out what you’re rated.

…It’s TGI Friday: New Theme?

DidntYouHear.com

As you can (hopefully) see, DidntYouHear.com went under the knife recently, and is now sporting a new look. Version 1.1 incorporates a lot of the visual changes that I’ve been wanting to make for some time now, with the biggest being the addition of a second sidebar. Overall, there is now more information available on one screen, and I think it makes everything a little easier to look at.

For today’s TGI Friday, I’m asking for some feedback. Do you like the new look? Hate it? Is anything broken? Since I develop on a Mac, I can’t see the site in Internet Explorer, so I’m especially interested to hear how it looks over in IE land (though you should be using Firefox anyways). As always, both positive and negative comments are appreciated.

In addition to the design changes, DYH is now a little wider as well. Unfortunately, this means that some of you might have the edges of the site cut off by your browser, but according to my Mint stat tracker, 87% of you will still be able to view the new size in its full glory, so I had to make a few sacrifices for the greater good (though I do apologize to anyone who now has to side scroll). Remember though, if you subscribe to the RSS Feed, you can see the content however you like (or however your RSS viewer allows you to like), so there is always an alternative solution.

Lastly, in case you were wondering, this site runs off of WordPress, uses K2 as the theme, and sports a custom K2 style (called DYH) that I developed. And coffee. Lots of coffee.
