DidntYouHear.com is now on Facebook!
In an effort to find new, fun, and creative ways to promote the site, I’ve created a Facebook Page for DidntYouHear.com, and I’d love for you to check it out.
On the page, you’ll find a Facebook version of each post, along with a Discussion Board, a Wall, and a Graffiti area.
Though I’m not entirely sure what this page will become, I figure that it’s a great place for DYH readers to interact, and it can evolve into its own little community in time.
To get things started, I’m going to be doing a special giveaway to anyone who becomes a “Fan” of the page.
To enter, just click “Become a Fan” in the top right of the page, and then next Friday (March 7) I’ll select a random winner from among the fans, and award that person a $10 Amazon Gift Card (or something of equal value if Amazon isn’t exactly your thing).
I’m also looking for feedback, so feel free to contact me directly, or comment either on this post, or on the page with features that you’d like to see, general comments, or anything else that you can think of.
See you there!

And the winner is…
wendy_q420
Congratulations!
Just to clarify my methods, I put each name that entered the contest into an Excel spreadsheet (there were 6 names) in the order that they commented. (stephen first, superdude4agze second, etc.)
Then, I created a formula to randomly pick a number between 1 and 7 (1.00->6.99). The formula was RAND()*(7-1) 1. The number that it came up with was 4.1001456. Thus, since the whole digit was 4, wendy_q420 was the winner, as she was the fourth person to comment.
If anyone sees any fault with the above logic, please let me know, and I’ll draw again. Otherwise, keep an eye out for the next Swag Bag giveaway!

UNEASYsilence is giving away a Nintendo Wii. To enter, just mention the contest somewhere (like I’m doing here), and provide a link. Simple as that.

For today’s TGI Friday, I’d like to announce a new contest that I’m calling The Great Flickr Photo Find. Since I haven’t done a giveaway in a while, the winner of this contest is going to get something special. If ‘the find’ gets 10 or more entrants (10 people, not 10 photos), I’ll be giving away a one year Flickr pro account (so spread the word and let your friends know, because the more entrants, the better). If ‘the find’ gets less than 10 though, don’t despair, because I’ve still got something special in mind that won’t disappoint.
To enter, just find a photo on Flickr that you like. Simple, right? It can be funny, inspiring, emotional, or unique, but just make sure it’s interesting. Then, post a link to the pic in the comments. That’s it. At the end of the day (PST) on Sunday, March 25, I’ll pick my favorite pic out of the entrants, and the poster will win the prize. Though any photo is eligible (even your own), I’d like to post the winning photo here on the site, so bonus points will be awarded for the use of a Creative Commons photo (like the photo above, Hammertime, by Afroswede, or the photo below, pillars, by Jef Poskanzer). To make things easy, just use the Creative Commons Search.
Find a photo, post it, and win; that’s all there is to it. Let’s see what you’ve got.
Edit: I’ve extended the deadline until Sunday to give you some time to find the good stuff.

Last week I mentioned the FON free router giveaway, but this week I’m going to dive a little deeper into the service that is FON. FON is “the world’s largest WiFi community”. The service works like this: Members share their wireless Internet access at home, and in return, can get free WiFi access through any of the other Fonero Access Points.

There are two ways of sharing your Internet. Either you’re a Linus, and you share your WiFi in exchange for free WiFi from other users, or you’re a Bill, and you sell your WiFi by the day and split the profits with FON (you can also be an Alien and pay for the FON service, but who wants to do that?). The La Fonera router is a special kind of router that outputs two signals. One is a private signal that you can use just for yourself for a secure connection that you don’t have to share. The other is a public signal that other Fon users and Aliens can access. You can even personalize the page that other Foneros see when they log onto your FON Access Point, telling them a little about yourself, your local area, or just to say “hi” to other members. Since the service gets better and better as more people sign on and share their Internet, FON has been running a series of promotions lately to give away free Fonero routers to just about anyone who wants one. Their latest promotion is called Fonbucks, where “FON + Starbucks = cash for you”. It works like this: If you live above or near a Starbucks (or any café/coffee shop) they’ll send you a free router that you can use to steal some of Starbucks’ wireless revenue with. Users pay $2 per day (much less than the $10 that Starbucks charges for a single day), and you receive $1 of that in return. It’s a definite win-win, a hopefully a good way of spreading the “movimiento” (movement). If you’re interested in free WiFi, or making some cash off of sharing your own, then definitely check out FON, because the more users the better.
Bonus: I’ve got a free La Fonero router to give away to one lucky DYH reader. If you want it, just say so in the comments, and I’ll pick out one comment at random and send a router your way. It’s Fontastic.

As announced previously, TGI Friday is going to be a way of ending the week on a fun note. For the inaugural TGI Friday, DYH is giving away a $10 iTunes Gift Card to one lucky reader. To enter, just leave some sort of comment on this post (simple, right?). It can be anything, from a name to a link (keep it SFW) to a shoutout, just make sure you’re on here. Registration closes at midnight PST, and then one commenter will be picked at random and will win the gift card. To keep things interesting, you’ll be given an additional entry for each person that mentions your commenting name (the ID you choose when you registered with DYH) in their comment, so spread the word and increase your chances. You could be downloading your own legal copy of the Ok Go’s Here It Goes Again treadmill video in no time.

A new year means new features, and Didn’t You Hear is going to be adding some in the coming weeks. The first to be announced is daily content. DYH will continue to cover everything that is so hot right now, but will also be adding the following:
Tuner Tuesday
A new car, car tuner, or car review will debut each Tuesday.
Website Wednesday
A new website will debut each Wednesday.
Things Thursday
A new gadget, gift, or gizmo will debut each Thursday.
TGI Friday
Anything goes, but it will definitely be unique. Maybe a contest, maybe a giveaway, maybe just a joke to finish off the week, but definitely something interesting.
So make sure to check back daily for new stuff, because 2007 is going to be the year of Didn’t You Hear.

…It’s TGI Friday: I Heart T-Shirts?
Want to win a free t-shirt? Then read on:
If you read DYH with any kind of regularity, then you’ve probably noticed that I’m a huge t-shirt fanatic. I own and wear far too many of them, but I can never get enough. I’m always on the lookout for new and unique shirts, and often when I find them, I post about them here.
However, I’ve wanted to start a separate t-shirt blog for quite some time now, so I’ve decided to do a little experiment to see if I can use Facebook to do it.
Thus, I’ve started a page on Facebook called “I Heart T-Shirts”, and I’m going to use it as a sort of mini-blog, posting about the latest t-shirt designs that I find and fall in love with.
If you’ve got a Facebook account, head on over to the page and check it out.
There, I’ve gathered up links to some of my favorite t-shirt stores, blogs and coupon codes, and I’m also going to be using the “Posted Items” area as a mini blog where I’ll share links to some of the newest and coolest designs out there.
To get this up and running though, it would be great to have people become fans of the page, which is why I’m going to be doing a giveaway on Sunday, May 11 to one random (and lucky) fan.
To enter, just go to the I Heart T-Shirts page and click “Become A Fan”. Then, on Sunday, I’ll select one fan at random from those that have signed up and I’ll send them a $25 Threadless Gift Certificate.
Since this is an experiment, I encourage you to contact me with any comments , questions or suggestions that you have about the page. Feel free to either email me here, or send me a message through the Facebook system.
Also, since Facebook is a community-based site after all, feel free to share photos, and videos of you and your favorite t-shirt designs on the page. Plus, if you can tell any of your t-shirt loving friends about the page, I would greatly appreciate it.
(Lastly, if you haven’t already, check out the DidntYouHear.com Page on Facebook!)
See you there!
