…It’s TGI Friday: Beer?

Imperial Russian Stout Pipeline Porter

Free Stuff Friday is back, and this time, I’m giving away a $10 iTunes gift card to one lucky winner (which is coincidentally just enough to buy the DYH iMix 04.07 if you so choose). To enter, just add a comment to this post with the name of your favorite beer. Not only will this earn you an entry into the contest, it will also add $.50 to the Comment Charity total as a way of saying thanks for your time.

Don’t drink beer? No problem; just comment with the name of your favorite beer alternative (soda, coffee, water, wine, etc.) and you’ll also be entered.

Though my all-time favorite would have to be Stone’s Imperial Russian Stout, I’m currently digging the wonderful Pipeline Porter that Kona recently released.

As usual, the contest will run through Sunday, so you have plenty of time to pick a favorite (or make one up if you don’t already have one) and type it into the comment box.

A few minutes of your time in exchange for a chance at a few free songs? Sounds like a good deal to me. Cheers.

…There are ten reasons why Apple should hire Paris Hilton?

Paris Hilton

In response to reports that people are paying for their stories to reach the front page of Digg, Webomatica said that rather than paying, all you need to get to the front page is a story titled “Top Ten Reasons Why Apple Should Hire Paris Hilton”. So, I’m going to run an experiment to find out: is that all you need?

Here are “The Top Ten Reasons Why Apple Should Hire Paris Hilton”:

Paris Carl’s Jr.

10. She already promotes every other product in the world.

The Apple Life

9. She could star in “The Apple Life”.

Hilton

8. She could put an Apple store in every Hilton hotel.

One Night In Paris

7. She makes a lot of “private videos” that would be great for product placements.

Tinkerbell

6. She could attach a Shuffle to her Chihuahua.

Paris Hilton Bentley

5. She could advertise on her Bentley.

iTunes One Night In Paris

4. She could sell One Night In Paris through the iTunes Movie Store.

Paris Jobs

3. She would look good in a black turtleneck and jeans.

Silhouette

2. She has a very distinctive silhouette.

I’m A PC

1. She would make a great PC.

…Adium had a birthday?

Adium

If you want to use that video camera built into your Mac’s shiny new front so that you can see whom it is you’re talking to when you’re typing away, stick with iChat. If you want to do some serious conversing without being bothered by the face of your friend, it’s time for a change to the duck side.

Adium Services

Adium, the free and open-source solution to chatting on the Mac, has just hit version 1.0, and with it a slew of new changes have been solidified:

  • Added global user profile and buddy icon settings
  • Added an Xtras manager for better browsing and removing of Xtras
  • Major improvements in privacy settings
  • Improvements to the default look and feel
  • iTunes integration is much faster, and updates as soon as the song changes
  • Redesigned Chat Transcript (Log) Viewer
  • Optional dock-like hiding of the contact list

And as if that wasn’t enough, Adium greets a new installer with what all Mac installs should have: a custom Finder splash screen. If you want to get serious about your chatting, get serious about Adium, and do the duck.

…It’s TGI Friday: Jokes?

For today’s TGI Friday, I want to hear a good joke. It doesn’t have to be new, it doesn’t have to be original, it just has to be good. If you’ve got a good joke, post it in the comments and let the world laugh with you. No good deed goes unrewarded though, so I’m going to choose the best joke that gets submitted and give the publisher a $10 iTunes gift card. That’s right, $10 of free iTunes stuff, just for posting a joke. Need some inspiration? How about this:

There’s two peanuts walking down the street, and one was a salted.

See how easy that was? 10 seconds of your time could mean 10 dollars of iTunes stuff, so make it good, make it funny, and make my day.

…It’s TGI Friday: iPhone fakes?

iPhone Shuffle

Following the first TGI Friday, user ihave7stars is now the proud new owner of a $10 iTunes gift card, and had some really nice things to say about DYH:

You have a really cool site and I’m bookmarking it with the rest of my daily must-reads. It’s nice to get all my important news on one page without the other stuff I don’t care about.

This week, the TGI Friday is a great Photoshop of the new iPhone Shuffle, and a challenge to the DYH readers out there with some great Photoshoping skills of their own. Can you top the iPhone Shuffle? Now that we know what the real iPhone is going to look like, what do you think Apple should have done? What do you think Apple still has in store? iPhone Nano? iPhone Rotary? If I get some good ones, I’ll come up with a prize to give away for the best, so let the ideas run wild and let’s see what you’ve got.

To keep things interesting, you’ll be given an additional entry for each person that mentions your commenting name (the ID you choose when you registered with DYH) in their comment, so spread the word and increase your chances. You could be downloading your own legal copy of the Ok Go’s Here It Goes Again treadmill video in no time.

…Slient Bob’s iTunes Celebrity Playlist was not silent?

Kevin Smith of Silent Bob fame was not so silent enough on his iTunes Celebrity Playlist that they couldn’t post it on iTunes (as a Clerks 2 DVD promotional vehicle) due to his lengthy description associated with each song choice. Not wanting to trim down his verbose labor of love, he instead decided to post his choices to his blog, complete with full descriptions for all to enjoy and dissect. Though not as good as Minnie Driver’s playlist, there are some interesting inclusions, and the descriptions are definitely top notch. Check it out, and you just might find yourself expanding upon your own Future Celebrity Playlist.

…Mad World rode on Gears of War’s popularity?

Though I haven’t had a chance to play it (which saddens me because it looks awesome), Gears of War is supposedly the game that will transform the Xbox 360 from another next gen into the must have system (sorry PS3, keep trying). One interesting fallout of the Gears of War popularity is the rise in popularity of the song that takes center stage in the ominous commercial. Just like the original Bravia commercial put José González’s “Heartbeats” song on the map, Gears of War has propelled “Mad World” (a cover of Tears for Fears’ 1982 hit performed by Gary Jules in 2001 for the Donnie Darko soundtrack) to the top of the iTunes download charts. I must say that I was one of the masses that downloaded this song based solely on the minute you hear during the commercial, but it’s one of those songs that just oozes emotion, and I love it for that. So go get yourself a copy, you know you want to.
