After NetNewsWire decided to stop selling its program and to instead just give it away, NewsFire must have gotten jealous, because they’ve just announced that their program will be free as well.
Since NewsFire has no online component, and thus, cannot use your data in any way (NNW went free in exchange for your attention data) I’m not exactly sure how NF plans to make money, but where there’s a will, there’s a way, right?
Either way, there are now two fantastic players in the free desktop RSS reader game, and that’s fantastic!

As Facebook continues to grow, it continues to need new ways of making money from each of its users.
One of those ways is Project Beacon, where Facebook builds a page for an advertiser, and then links to it from various profile pages.
How does it create those links?
By monitoring what sites you visit, and then phoning home after you visit an advertiser’s site.
As expected, many users are not exactly excited about Facebook’s ability to watch everything they do, and are looking for ways to stop the Beacon.
Luckily, it’s as easy as using a JavaScript blocking plug-in in Firefox, and blocking the specific URL that Beacon uses.

On Saturday, I had the chance to go and see Formula D’s “The Finals” at Irwindale Speedway (yes, I did get stuck on Interstate 5 on the way down from San Francisco due to that massive accident), and I must say, if you’re at all a fan of the four wheeled machine, make sure you check out one of Formula Drift’s events at a track near you.
If you’re not familiar with the sport, think of drifting as two automotive ballerinas battling it out in a boxing match. It’s gracefully controlled mayhem, and in my opinion, it’s easily the best form of four-wheeled entertainment on the planet.
