Travis Pastrana Hydrojump

Apparently, when you’re Travis Pastrana, conquering regular sports just gets boring after a while, and you need to invent new and unique sports to conquer just to keep yourself busy.

Travis’ latest stunt, called the hydrojump, had him skimming his Suzuki dirtbike at 70 miles per hour for 110 feet in five-foot-deep water, and then launching off of a floating FMX ramp.

I Heart T-Shirts

If you read DYH with any kind of regularity, then you’ve probably noticed that I’m a huge t-shirt fanatic. I own and wear far too many of them, but I can never get enough. I’m always on the lookout for new and unique shirts, and often when I find them, I post about them here.

However, I’ve wanted to start a separate t-shirt blog for quite some time now, so I’ve decided to do a little experiment to see if I can use Facebook to do it.

Thus, I’ve started a page on Facebook called “I Heart T-Shirts”, and I’m going to use it as a sort of mini-blog, posting about the latest t-shirt designs that I find and fall in love with.

If you’ve got a Facebook account, head on over to the page and check it out.

There, I’ve gathered up links to some of my favorite t-shirt stores, blogs and coupon codes, and I’m also going to be using the “Posted Items” area as a mini blog where I’ll share links to some of the newest and coolest designs out there.

To get this up and running though, it would be great to have people become fans of the page, which is why I’m going to be doing a giveaway on Sunday, May 11 to one random (and lucky) fan.

To enter, just go to the I Heart T-Shirts page and click “Become A Fan”. Then, on Sunday, I’ll select one fan at random from those that have signed up and I’ll send them a $25 Threadless Gift Certificate.

…Team Fortress 2 has been Gold Rush Updated?

Team Fortress 2 Gold Rush Update

The Team Fortress 2 “Gold Rush Update” has just been unleashed by Valve, and it includes a new Gold Rush Map, a new Gameplay Type, a unique Item System, and 36 new Medic Achievements.

    Gold Rush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload. The level is split into three separate areas with intermediate capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (Blu) and defense (Red) similar to Dustbowl. The goal for the Blu team is to push the bomb payload through the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of Red’s major bases. Blu pushes the cart through the level by standing near it, with the cart moving faster when more people are close by. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again.

The new item system is going to be rolling out over the next year, and players will be able to earn three new and unique items for each character by earning some or all of that character’s new achievements.

The new medic achievements are quite varied, and range from Quadruple Bypass (Heal a teammate who’s taking fire from 4 enemies at once.) and Play Doctor (In a team with no Medics, be first to switch to Medic after a teammate calls “Medic!”, and then heal 500 health.) to Big Pharma (Assist a Heavy in killing 20 enemies, where neither of you die.) and Bedside Manner (Be healing a teammate as he achieves an achievement of his own.)

Lastly, if you haven’t yet played Team Fortress 2 (and you really should) then you can try it out this weekend from May 2-4, during which you can play the entire game for free through Steam.

Twubble “can help expand your Twitter bubble – it searches your friend graph and picks out people who you may like to follow”.

To use Twubble, simply click the “Find some friends!” button, and Twubble will search through your list of ‘friend of a friends’ to see who your Twitter friends are following that your not. Thus, the more friends that are following this new found friend, the high Twubble ranks them.

As long as you’ve already got a sizable group of friends, Twubble does a pretty good job of finding new folks for you to follow, so give it a shot and see what you come up with, because you never know what’s inside the Twubble.

…Ten Thousand Cents is not a lot of money?

Ten Thousand Cents

Ten Thousand Cents is a digital artwork that created a representation of the $100 bill using 10,000 anonymous artists, each paid one cent per contribution.

By using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, the two main artists (Aaron Koblin and Takashi Kawashima) were able to enlist the help of thousands of other people/artists to recreate the bill. Each person was given a small area to draw, and was paid one cent to do so, though they were never told the overall goal.

Thus, the total labor cost to create the bill, the artwork being created, and the reproductions available for purchase are all $100.

    The project explores the circumstances we live in, a new and uncharted combination of digital labor markets, “crowdsourcing,” “virtual economies,” and digital reproduction.

In all, it took almost five months to complete, and the result is surprisingly accurate.

…Google’s Mobile LCM has been discovered?

Google Mobile LCM

Robots.txt is a file that webmasters use to tell Google’s spiders what they can and cannot crawl through to index for search results, but for the curious, it’s also a way to figure out what Google doesn’t want the world to know about yet.

That’s because Google maintains its own robots.txt file that prevents their new products from showing up in search results until they’re ready. However, they don’t prevent you or I from taking a look at their robots.txt file and seeing what’s in there, which is exactly how Google Mobile LCB was discovered.

Google Mobile LCB appears to be a searchless search, where you put in your location, and Google automatically gives you various categories for things that are around you.

Though it’s obviously not finished, the idea is an interesting one, and I think we’ll see more and more programs become location aware as more and more cell phones come standard with GPS.

Sure, they did it in 3 Fast 3 Furious, but no one actually puts a new engine into old muscle; do they?

Well apparently they do, because the ’72 Pontiac LeMans that you see here is powered by none other than a 1991 Toyota Supra 7M-GTE 3.0 Litre 24V Turbo motor.

Apparently the car was basically a total loss when it was purchased at auction, so it’s not like they chopped up some pristine iron to make this creation, but I’m still not sure if I can wrap my head around how they decided that this was their best bet for power.

I guess if the go pedal works though, it doesn’t exactly matter what it’s connected to.
