…Flamingos have an artistic side?

Flamingo Flamingo

Believe it or not, this photo is not the work of a Photoshop artists.

Instead, it was taken by Robert Haas, who actually managed to capture a flock of flamingos standing in the shape of a flamingo for his latest book, called “Through the Eyes of the Condor”.

If this photo is any indication, Through the Eyes of the Condor is going to be an amazing addition to the collection of any coffee table book fan.

…You can play with the sky?

SKYplay

Here’s an interesting photo idea: Use clouds in your photos.

Called SKYplay, it “depicts a composition dominated by use of the sky & real clouds at that moment with another object”.

Basically, the next time you see a cool cloud formation, bring out the camera and incorporate it into your photo.

…Maxim loves the hometown hottie?

Maxim Hometown Hotties

Maxim (and Icehouse) would like to once again remind you that unless you lucked out when it came to picking neighbors, yours probably doesn’t look anything like the finalists in their Hometown Hotties contest.

This ‘Girl Next Door’ extravaganza features 10 of the top neighborhood cuties, including their photos, videos, and MySpace links, and allows you to vote for your favorite.

At least there’s one good reason to live in Bakersfield, CA.

…It’s Website Wednesday: YouTube Remixer?

YouTube’s Remixer is a web app that, in collaboration with Adobe’s Premiere Express, allows you to “create remixes by combining video clips, photos, and music with graphic effects, and transitions.”
YouTube Remixer

Sometimes, instant gratification video is just the thing you need.
If you’ve ever uploaded from your cell phone, wished for an easy way to add titles and transitions, or just wanted to remix your own videos, Remixer is a great place to play. It lets you assemble your new video in an easy drag-and-drop timeline, and then publish it right back to YouTube. Your original videos will stay exactly the same.

Though you’re not going to be cranking out Academy Award wining films with this thing any time soon, it will be good to see a little flair added to the “hey, look what my new camera phone can do” videos that are currently proliferating the ‘Tube. Blair Witch 2, here I come.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren?

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is no newcomer, but the guys from Germany have recently created a few more options for their well-intentioned (and well-heeled) buyers.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722

If you’ve got the need for speed, the new 722 Edition takes out any of the street left in this supercar, and replaces it with pure race.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Engine

The supercharged, hand-built 5.5-liter AMG V8 now puts out 650 horsepower, the suspension, now 10 millimeters lower, features a stiffer damper configuration, and the brakes, now larger, ensure that you can bring everything back into reality just a little bit quicker. Visual changes include a new front spoiler with air splitter, a rear diffuser, and a collection of carbon fiber for that sporty look.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster

If the plans for your SLR don’t include daily trips to the track, but you still want something different, then drop the top on the new Roadster edition, and hit the highways in style. The roof, made of a newly developed material, is good to go at 206 mph, and lowers in just 10 seconds; perfect for an impromptu photo session with the paparazzi. Even with the top down though, Mercedes claims you can hold a conversation at 125 mph, which is great for complimenting your passenger on their newly styled, wind restyled hair.

Sidepipe exhaust, gills, propeller nose, and suave sophistication are all still standard.

…FILE Magazine expects the unexpected?

Painter’s Thumb By Nawfal Nur

FILE Magazine is a collection of photographs that treat subjects in unexpected ways, creating new genres with alternate takes, odd angles, unconventional observations, and more, FILE isn’t Kodak, Vogue or ESPN, and it definitely isn’t a photoblog, photo challenge/contest, or group photo album. FILE is, however, a great place to go for inspiration, improvisation, and imagination. If you want to see the world through a different lens, check out what FILE has to offer, but be prepared for a perspective shift.

…You can make your own A Scanner Darkly photos?

A Scanner Darkly

With a few somewhat simple Adobe Illustrator techniques, you can turn any photo into a scene straight out of A Scanner Darkly, a film that used a style called Interpolated Rotoscoping.

…Virginia’s DMV isn’t a model for security?

I’d say it’s pretty worrisome what some kids with a desire for mischief can get away with at a Virginia DMV. Will Carsola and Dave Stewart from DayByDay Productions (They’re also behind a movie called Teenagers From Uranus) one upped each other to see who could get away with the craziest costume during their driver’s license photo retakes, and sadly, they were only stopped by their lack of customizable hair and crazy ideas. Can it really be that easy to get an ID card that looks that ridiculous? I sure hope not after this video makes the rounds.
