…Photoshop is as real as it gets?

As Real As It Gets

In case you missed it, this ad for Photoshop, called “As Real As It Gets”, is a fantastically creative interpretation of what the program would look like if it existed in real life.

Also, be sure to check out the Flickr set for some behind the scenes shots, because the size of this ad is almost unbelievable!

…It’s Things Thursday: Lakai Recycled Program?

Lakai Recycled Program

If you’d like to go green in style, then check out the Lakai Recycled Program.

By “applying excess shoe materials that would otherwise be thrown away to selected styles each season”, Lakai is turning trash into unique pairs of kicks that are good looking and good for the environment.

In addition to the recycled materials (leather, suede, mesh) the Recycled Program shoes will also feature soles comprised of new gum rubber mixed with regrind rubber waste, reducing new material by up to 50%.

Another benefit of the program is that each shoe will have a unique look that is the result of whatever materials they happened to have around that day, so no two pairs will share the same material and/or color combinations.

Are you ready to go green?

…You can go back to your Mac for free?

Back To My Mac

Leopard’s Back to My Mac tool is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to access their Mac from anywhere around the world without bringing it with them.

The program is designed to let you “Access and control your Mac running Mac OS X Leopard from any other Leopard-based Mac over the Internet — right in the new Finder”.

It’s a great program, but unfortunately, it requires a .Mac account if you want to use it.

However, if getting back to your Mac sounds like something that you’d like to do, but a .Mac account doesn’t sound like something you need, then check out Lifehacker’s guide to Get Back to Your Mac Without Paying for It, as it will guide you through the process of setting up Back to My Mac on your Leopard computer with tools that are available for free, right out of the box.

…The iBand is near?

iBand

Soon, the iPhone’s multi-touch interface will let you and your buddies form your very own traveling iBand.

Currently, PocketGuitar lets you fret away on the six string, and the iAno adds some ivories to the mix, which means you’re one drum solo away from a tour date.

What’s interesting is that unlike the Vans Fracture concept, these programs are ready to run and can be used on any (jailbroken) iPhone or iPod Touch.

Rock on!

…SuperDuper makes backups bulletproof?

Bulletproof Backups

With any computer, backups are a must, but for most, it’s a ‘one day’ sort of thing.

Thankfully, with the release of Leopard and the introduction/inclusion of Time Machine, Apple has made it easy to keep a backup of your files in case the inevitable happens.

However, Time Machine is not the end all program for backing up your computer, and Shawn Blanc has written an excellent post about why you may want to use SuperDuper in conjunction with Time Machine for bulletproof backups.

…Flow has an amazing icon?

Flow

A popular program’s icon is something that you probably interact with on a daily basis, so it’s always interesting to get into the mind of an icon designer to see just what decisions they’re making during their design process.

Sebastiaan de With is the man behind the new icon for Flow (an FTP client for the Mac that is heavy on both form and function) and his work is fantastic.

The end result is a swirl (or is it a flow) of colors that grabs the eye and demands clickage, but the steps that he takes to get to that end result are what’s interesting.

Flow there now.

…Digg wants to show you the pics?

Digg Pics

When Digg added an Images category to the site, they also added a new program to their Digg Labs called Pics.

As images are submitted or Dugg, they move from the left to the right of the screen in columns by category.

Though, as with all Digg Labs products, it’s of limited use in terms of speeding up the Digg process, it does give an interesting look into the always changing, evolving, and updating world of Digg, as well as Digg trends in real time, so it’s definitely worth a look.

…Mileage Running isn’t easy?

Airport Pan

Have you ever heard of mileage running?

The goal is to fly for the sake of flying so that you can earn enough airline miles to receive perks from the frequent flier program.

To do mileage running, you only need two things: a lot of time, and cheap tickets (one to two cents per mile cheap).

Then, you simply rack up the miles, going through the ticket and routing calculations, through elite status, upgrades, irregular operations, weather delays, working the system, bumping and marathon flying; all for the sake of a few extra miles.

Ready to work the system?

Then check out Gadling’s Guide to Mileage Running, and learn from the best.

…NetNewsWire is perfect?

NetNewsWire

On a daily basis, NetNewsWire is the program that I use to keep this blog running as I sort through a thousand plus stories per day via RSS.

Thankfully, it never disappoints, and NewsGator has done an excellent job of making everything work the way it should.

Shawn Blanc agrees, and has posted a great run through of the features that set NNW apart, so if you’ve got a Mac, and you read blogs by RSS (as you should) then definitely give NetNewsWire a try.

It’s that good.

…Running should be spiced up?

Running

Running is great for the body, but if you’re only doing it at one speed, then you’re missing out on not only a better workout, but a less boring one as well.

To combat this problem, Zen Habits has put together 10 Great Workouts To Spice Up Your Running Program. They’ll keep things interesting, make you run faster and stronger, help you run longer, and stop your body from adapting, which all sound good to me.
