…Folding paper can be fun?

Here’s a few projects for you paper folders:

Paper Train Whistle

The first is a working train whistle made entirely out of household materials (printer, paper, thicker paper, white glue, scissors, and a razor edge).

To make the whistle, just print the paper parts, fold, cut, glue, and after 3 hours (drying time) you’ll have your very own playable paper train whistle.

NetFlix Origami

The second is an entire site dedicated to origami that you can make from the tear-off flaps that come on NetFlix wrappers.

Though traditional origami usually requires squares of paper, each of these designs has been adapted so that you can use the rectangular NetFlix flap without alteration.

Using the sturdy and colorful flaps, you can make your very own swan, frog, box, shirt, heart, tray, crab, sack, cube, envelope, bullet plane, glider, and dive-bomber.

Just watch out for the paper cuts.

…Halo corpses can spell?

Halo Corpse Alphabet

It takes dedication to make an entire alphabet out of Halo corpses, but takes a little bit of crazy to then add in numbers, and even a few punctuation marks.

The original goal of the Halo Corpse Alphabet (a self-described macabre project) was to represent every letter of the alphabet with the twisted, curved, stretched, and otherwise dead Spartan and Elite bodies from Halo 3.

Apparently the Halo community was more than willing to take on this task, as they quickly jumped on board and cranked out letter after letter for the amusement of all.

…It’s Website Wednesday: ClearlyClosed?

ClearlyClosed

ClearlyClosed is a rather uniquely focused website the “captures storefronts in everyday neighborhoods that leave their ‘open’ sign on long after they’re closed”.

ClearlyClosed Sample

Since it’s a user-driven, collaborative and ongoing community photography project, you’re encouraged to submit your own photos that show buildings around you that are clearly closed, and there are even tips and guidelines for doing so if this is something you’d like to document too.

…Photos can be fun without edits?

Tell A Lie

Considering last week’s Iranian missile story, I though that Henry Hadlow’s Tell A Lie project was rather fitting:

The most controversial lies told with photography today are those told by news photographers who manipulate their work photographs to tell a different story, for example, Liu Weiqiang’s faked photograph of antelope and the China-Tibet rail link.

He also ads that he wanted to “flip this lie on its head and use a camera to mimic common Photoshop effects”.

Along those same lines, I thought that Fubiz’s Google Images idea was another fantastic way to take a photo with a digital spin that gives it a simple yet fun effect:

…You can make your own Steve Jobs?

Steve Jobs Paper ModelDidn’t get enough Steve Jobs in your life yesterday?

Then make your own!

Toy-A-Day is a year-long project where the creator will be constructing and posting a new paper toy from a basic template each day for one year, and to help celebrate iDay, he created a little Steve Jobs that comes with his own iPhone and iPod.

Simple print it out, fold it up, and display it for all your friends to see.

A lack of a neck makes it difficult to show off the trademark turtleneck in this mini mock-up, but considering the fact that this is an accurate representation of his Steviness, you can trust that it’s in there somewhere.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Kit Cars?

Kit Car

The kit car is a strange breed.

Caught somewhere between garage project and production machine, it’s often a budget way for someone to purchase the wheels of their dreams without breaking the bank.

As with all things though, kit cars cover the spectrum from spot-on supplements to torn-down beaters, and everything in between.

To get a glimpse of the available options, check out Motive’s coverage of the kit cars at the Carlisle auto show.

With everything from a Monte Carlo-based NASCAR replica and an almost production car from the Cobra clone masters to tricked out dune buggies and 57 Chevy-ized Camaros, it’s a taste of both the tasteful and the tasteless.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: BMW M5 Ute?

BMW M5 Ute

I’m going to have to agree with Stuart Appleby on this one: To say that his project is “a bit out of left field” is one hell of an understatement.

His goal: To turn a BMW E39 M5 into a “ute” by chopping off the back end and custom fabing the rest to make it work.

He’s definitely going for creativity points with this one!

Thankfully, he’s sharing both his decision making process, and his progress online, so you can follow along as one of BMW’s best cars gets turned into one of BMW’s only trucks.

It might not be for everyone, but for Stuart, it’s a dream come true.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Mansory Renovatio?

Mansory Renovatio

Mansory doesn’t do subtle supercars.

Their latest project, called the Renovatio, is based on a Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, and features a modified supercharger, new wheels, tons of carbon fiber additions, a tricked out interior, and plenty of gold paint.

The end result is a 700 horsepower beast that is guaranteed to turn heads.

…Stranger photos have happened?

Stranger PhotosJay from The Plug created an interesting project called Stranger Photos Have Happened where he tied a disposable camera to a bench with a sign reading:

    Good Afternoon,

I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up.

    Love,

    Jay / The Plug

Later that day, he did in fact go pick the camera up, and after developing the film, he posted the pics to his site for the world to see.
