…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Mansory Renovatio?

Mansory Renovatio

Mansory doesn’t do subtle supercars.

Their latest project, called the Renovatio, is based on a Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, and features a modified supercharger, new wheels, tons of carbon fiber additions, a tricked out interior, and plenty of gold paint.

The end result is a 700 horsepower beast that is guaranteed to turn heads.

…Stranger photos have happened?

Stranger PhotosJay from The Plug created an interesting project called Stranger Photos Have Happened where he tied a disposable camera to a bench with a sign reading:

    Good Afternoon,

I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up.

    Love,

    Jay / The Plug

Later that day, he did in fact go pick the camera up, and after developing the film, he posted the pics to his site for the world to see.

…Kitsune Noir has begun The Desktop Wallpaper Project?

The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Kitsune Noir wants to go beyond everyday blogging, and has begun a project called The Desktop Wallpaper Project to do so.

Each Wednesday, one new desktop wallpaper from a collection of artists and designers will be released, and it will be free to download in a multitude of monitor sizes, as well as iPhone and PSP versions.

So far, over 60 artists are involved, and some have submitted multiple works, so if you’re a fan of creative wallpapers, then check stop by on Wednesdays and see what’s new.

…Alltop covers all the top stories?

Alltop

Alltop is Guy Kawasaki’s latest project, and it’s “a ‘dashboard,’ ‘table of contents,’ or even a ‘digital magazine rack’ of the Internet”.

It’s also just a direct rip and expansion of Popurls, which means much of the blogging world is up in arms about the usefulness (or lack thereof) of Alltop.

However, if you’re looking for a site that groups all of the top stories together from top sites and then arranges them by topic, Alltop might be just what you’re looking for.

…It’s Things Thursday: Project Bore Snake?

Project Bore Snake

A Bore Snake is “a one-piece cleaning rod, brush, patch, solvent and oil applicator in a flexible package one can fold up and carry in a pocket, ready for instant use”.

Apparently, the soldiers in Iraq are given cleaning tools that don’t work as well or as quickly as they should, despite being more expensive than the Bore Snake. Also, because of the types of terrain that they’re fighting on, gun cleaning has become a frequent occurrence (as often as a few times per day).

Thus, Project Bore Snake aims to send Bore Snakes over to the troops so that they can have the best possible tools at their disposal, and so that no lives are lost due to improper gun maintenance.

While feelings about the war are obviously mixed, I think that a project like this is a great way to support the troops themselves without supporting the cause that they’re fighting for, and it does a whole lot more than a yellow ribbon magnet ever did.

…ITS OK?

ITS OK

An artist named sighn has begun a project called ITS OK, where he will cut the words “ITS OK” out of pieces of wood one million times. (Making this a “limited edition”.)

Each piece is made from a solid piece of wood (no plywood or particle board) and is hand cut and numbered by the artist himself. He expects to be done cutting in 60 years!

Worry not, however, as for each “ITS OK” he cuts and sells, he’ll also be planting a tree through the Arbor Day Foundation. Thus, it’s ok to purchase one without worrying about the environmental destruction a project like this could cause.

…The Coke Zero Game looks fantastic?

The Coke Zero Game

As part of the UEFA’s Euro 2008 Football Championships, North Kingdom put together a game for Coke called The Coke Zero Game that it says is one of its biggest projects ever.

Unfortunately, it’s currently only available in German, but with hot babes, flying cars, and plenty of fire and mayhem in the mix, it’s sure to be a blast when it launches stateside.

Until then, check out the North Kingdom site for a countdown timer, plus plenty of previews to tease you along for the ride.

…Etnies is taking on the SEED Project?

Etnies SEED Project

The etnies SEED Project “is a unique collection of apparel and footwear made of sustainable and recycled materials that reflect etines’ responsibility to give back to the planet. With the purchase of these products, one percent of the proceeds will be donated to benefit environmental organizations that etnies believes will plant the seeds for the future of action sports, humanity and our planet.”

The Spring ’08 collection was done in collaboration with San Diego-based artists Gary Benzel, and includes shoes, sandals, shirts, hats, socks, and hoodies for both men and women.

Looking good while saving the planet?

Count me in.

…Only you can prevent forest fires?

Fake Fire Extinguisher

How do fake fire extinguishers help prevent forest fires?

Simple: The medium is the message.

By installing these wooden fire extinguishers in the Table Mountain National Park, Animal Farm hopes to show that “it is almost impossible to stop a wild fire once it has started”. Thus, “using a real fire extinguisher on one would be as effective as using the wooden one” and “the only way to stop the fires is to prevent them”.

In addition to being a powerful message, the extinguishers were also carved by The Carpenters Shop, a “Non Governmental Organization set up to teach woodwork skills to the homeless and unemployed”; meaning this is an all-around feel good project.

Simple and subtle, yet powerful.

I love it!
