Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic continued their quest to turn space into a tourist destination on Monday with the roll out of the new WhiteKnightTwo (WK2) carrier aircraft that will ferry SpaceShipTwo and “thousands of private astronauts, science packages and payload on the first stage of the Virgin Galactic sub-orbital space experience”.
WK2 is the world’s largest all carbon composite aircraft, and at 140 ft., the wing spar is also the longest single carbon composite aviation component ever manufactured.
Powered by four Pratt and Whitney PW308A engines, WK2 will support up to four daily space flights, and reach a maximum altitude of over 50,000 ft (limited only by the atmosphere).
It might only be for the rich and famous right now, but soon, Virgin Galactic hopes that you’ll hop aboard SpaceShipTwo, and WhiteKnightTwo will whisk you away into the blackness of space for a quick lap around the Earth.
Doritos has released a mystery flavor that it calls simply “Quest”, and if you can guess the name of this mystery flavor, you may soon find yourself $100,000 richer.
By logging on to SnackStrongProductions.com, you can begin your quest by guessing the name of the mystery flavor. Once you solve that first mystery, you’ll unlock “the untold mysteries” where “great wealth awaits the bold and adventurous”. Apparently one of “the clever, swift and keen will rise to meet the challenges and compete for the golden ARTIFACT worth $100,000”.
The games are very Myst like, and it’s actually a pretty cool idea for a chip maker, so be sure to check out The Quest and see if you can figure out what the mysteries might be.
Daily Monster is Stefan G. Bucher’s quest to draw one monster per day for 200 days.
Each monster starts out as an inkblot, and then Stefan adds to that blot until it starts to take on a character of its own. Then, users can submit a back-story for the monster, and Stefan picks some of the best and publishes them on his blog.
Each monster features the accompanying video where you can watch Stefan work his magic, and it’s impressive to watch each one take shape.
On May 2, Stefan drew the final monster in the series, so check out his site for a look at each one of the 200 monsters.
College Saga, a film by Mark Leung, is the Final Fantasy style quest of three students from suburban Massachusetts who step up to end Vegetarian Supremacy. It’s a well-edited saga about friendship, heritage, sex and explosions, and well worth the 41 minutes you’ll put into watching it.
