Apple went iPod crazy on Tuesday, and released an updated Nano, a new Touch, a larger (and cheaper) Classic, and Shuffles in all new (for them) colors.
The tech blogs have all managed to beat this news into the ground already, so I’m not going to dive into the details, but what I am going to wonder aloud about is this: Why did it take Apple so long to release an iPod in a rainbow of colors? (Or Nano-Chromatic in Apple speak.)
While Apple was busy doling out doses of iPod five flavors at a time, ColorWare managed to make an entire business out of taking your iPod and adding color to it, and they even charge an extra fee to do so.
It’s obvious that the demand for colors has always existed, as evidenced by Apple’s decision to release their products in various (limited) colors along the way, and the mere existence of ColorWave, so why hasn’t Apple jumped on this bandwagon before?
The world may never know…

If you’ve had your eye on a new iPod Touch, then it’s time to pull the trigger, because Amazon is offering up a free 1GB Shuffle with the purchase of a 32GB Touch.
(It’s also a good time to note that the Shuffle is now just $49, with a $69 2GB version in the works. I used a Shuffle a lot for running, and it was the perfect player until I decided to get the Nike+ kit (which only works with the iPod Nano), so if you’re looking for a no hassle, easy to use MP3 player, then the Shuffle definitely gets my recommendation.)

The Bird-Electron EZ17-B iPod Recycling Speaker has got to be one of the coolest iPod accessories that I’ve seen in quite some time.
By utilizing the packaging from the 1st & 2nd Gen. iPod Nano or the 2nd & 3rd Gen. iPod Shuffle, you can turn what would normally become garbage into a usable accessory.
The speaker panel simply snaps in place, and then connects to your iPod without the need for an extra power source.
When you’re done, just tuck the wire and the iPod behind the speaker panel, and away you go.
Nifty!

In response to reports that people are paying for their stories to reach the front page of Digg, Webomatica said that rather than paying, all you need to get to the front page is a story titled “Top Ten Reasons Why Apple Should Hire Paris Hilton”. So, I’m going to run an experiment to find out: is that all you need?
Here are “The Top Ten Reasons Why Apple Should Hire Paris Hilton”:

10. She already promotes every other product in the world.

9. She could star in “The Apple Life”.

8. She could put an Apple store in every Hilton hotel.

7. She makes a lot of “private videos” that would be great for product placements.

6. She could attach a Shuffle to her Chihuahua.

5. She could advertise on her Bentley.

4. She could sell One Night In Paris through the iTunes Movie Store.

3. She would look good in a black turtleneck and jeans.

2. She has a very distinctive silhouette.

1. She would make a great PC.

Most of the time, if you want to swim with some tunes, you have to rig up some kind of waterproof case and hope that it doesn’t leak all over your precious ‘Pod. Now, a company called SwimMan has created a waterproof iPod Shuffle that is good up to depths of 10 feet. The second generation Shuffles are disassembled, and the innards are fortified with some kind of waterproof magic dust (probably not, but I’m not exactly sure what they do to them). You’ll still have to find a pair of waterproof buds (though SwimMan does sell a pair), but if you’re a swimmer or a triathloner, there’s no better (or smaller) way to get your waterproof music than with a SwimMan.

Apple decided to jump on the ColorWare wagon and now offers the Shuffle in five different flavors. Definitely not a ground breaking step by any means, but hopefully, their now colorized product line means that colors for the full size iPod can’t be far behind.

One great thing about Apple products is how easy it is to parody them. Start with a sleek product design, add a little bit of predictable product line, put some Web 2.0 gloss on it, and you’ve got yourself:

Following the first TGI Friday, user ihave7stars is now the proud new owner of a $10 iTunes gift card, and had some really nice things to say about DYH:
You have a really cool site and I’m bookmarking it with the rest of my daily must-reads. It’s nice to get all my important news on one page without the other stuff I don’t care about.
This week, the TGI Friday is a great Photoshop of the new iPhone Shuffle, and a challenge to the DYH readers out there with some great Photoshoping skills of their own. Can you top the iPhone Shuffle? Now that we know what the real iPhone is going to look like, what do you think Apple should have done? What do you think Apple still has in store? iPhone Nano? iPhone Rotary? If I get some good ones, I’ll come up with a prize to give away for the best, so let the ideas run wild and let’s see what you’ve got.

If latest and greatest rides shotgun to tried, true and cheaper in your shopping cart, then to you the rollout of Apple’s tiny Second Generation Shuffle simply means great deals on Apple’s Certified Refurbished First Generation model. The 512mb version sells for a paltry $29 and the 1gb version for a mere $59. With prices this low, you could practically hand out 512s as stocking stuffers or Starbucks tips if you were so inclined. I still use a 1gb when I run, and I must say that nothing beats the simplicity of Apple’s stick of gum flash player. Plus, they also work as memory sticks, allowing you to carry around any files you please in a stylishly MacHead sort of way. So hop, skip or jump over to Apple’s store (none of which will stop the music on your Shuffle) and pick one up while they last, ‘cause these are gonna be hot.
