…The Image Fulgurator will mess with your mind?

The Image Fulgurator is Julius von Bismarck’s photo hijacker that uses a flash gun and an old SLR camera to sense the flash of another camera and then project a message (either image or text) onto the surface of whatever is being photographed.

Apparently the reason for the Fulgurator is that Julius wants to challenge the confidence that people have in the accuracy of their photos, though I think that it’s more than a little fun to watch the confused faces of tourists who just can’t figure out what’s wrong with their camera:

Mansory doesn’t do subtle supercars.

Their latest project, called the Renovatio, is based on a Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, and features a modified supercharger, new wheels, tons of carbon fiber additions, a tricked out interior, and plenty of gold paint.

The end result is a 700 horsepower beast that is guaranteed to turn heads.

…Brabus is making a monster?

If the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Roadster just doesn’t do it for you, then maybe you need to check out the Brabus edition. (Or get a better sense of what does it for you.)

Featuring a new front spoiler made of exposed carbon fiber, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, 20 inch Brabus Monoblock VI wheels, special camshafts, a fuel cooling system, high-performance exhaust (the car is now up to 650hp from the supercharged V8) and a clutch-type limited-slip differential, the roadster will now get to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a new top speed of 209 mph.

Inside, there’s now custom leather trim, a flat-bottom sports steering wheel with integrated buttons for shifting gears, and carbon fiber trim for the dashboard, center console, and door.

Need more?

That’s just too damn bad, because it might not be possible.

RENNtech is known for making Benzmobiles go like rocketships, and the Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722 GT makes 671 horsepower, but for true speed, you need to check out the RENNtech/Aixro XR50, a kart with a 50 horsepower rotary engine that weighs little more than the driver itself.

Featuring body mods that mimic its bigger brother, the XR50, which sits just inches off the ground, is probably one of the most fun (and most scary) means of four-wheel transportation ever created.

Just remember: Keep it rubber side down.

Refusing to leave well enough alone, Mercedes-McLaren have taken their SLR supercar and turned it into a club-racing monster, called the SLR 722 GT.

Developed in conjunction with British motorsports company RML Group, and designed for the handful of very rich drivers who can afford to pony up the one million pounds it takes to get behind the wheel of one of the 21 being made, the 722 GT features modifications to the suspension, braking, aerodynamics, interior and exhaust of a normal SLR. In total, more than 400 components have been either replaced or redesigned.

Power comes in the form of a supercharged AMG 5.5L V8 that is rated at 671 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque.

Eye appeal upgrades include a new front apron with front splitter, wide wings, prominent side skirts, a rear diffuser, and an airplane sized wing on the back.

Now, you’ve just got to track down one of those Ferrari FXX Evoluzione owners and challenge him to a race.

…It’s Movie Monday: The Illusive?

The Illusive

Though I doubt the world of the automotive spy photographer is anything near as glamorous as how it’s portrayed in “The Illusive”, it sure is a neat way to debut a new ride.

The film, which features the new SLR Roadster (among other Mercedes offerings), the Apple iPhone, and a Canon camera (“ideal brand partners are brought together and acquired for each film individually”), follows a freelance photog as he attempts to get the exclusive shot, and the illusive girl.

    A closed-off racecourse in northern France. A high-class German carmaker is holding a hush-hush photo shoot for its hypercharged baby. No one outside of the company has ever seen the secret new roadster.

It’s a very entertaining film, if a bit short, and does a great job of advertising for the product without coming off as a blatant product advertisement.

If only all ads were as subtle.

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is no newcomer, but the guys from Germany have recently created a few more options for their well-intentioned (and well-heeled) buyers.

If you’ve got the need for speed, the new 722 Edition takes out any of the street left in this supercar, and replaces it with pure race.

The supercharged, hand-built 5.5-liter AMG V8 now puts out 650 horsepower, the suspension, now 10 millimeters lower, features a stiffer damper configuration, and the brakes, now larger, ensure that you can bring everything back into reality just a little bit quicker. Visual changes include a new front spoiler with air splitter, a rear diffuser, and a collection of carbon fiber for that sporty look.

If the plans for your SLR don’t include daily trips to the track, but you still want something different, then drop the top on the new Roadster edition, and hit the highways in style. The roof, made of a newly developed material, is good to go at 206 mph, and lowers in just 10 seconds; perfect for an impromptu photo session with the paparazzi. Even with the top down though, Mercedes claims you can hold a conversation at 125 mph, which is great for complimenting your passenger on their newly styled, wind restyled hair.

Sidepipe exhaust, gills, propeller nose, and suave sophistication are all still standard.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Hennessey?

Hennessey is the self-proclaimed “Home of the World’s Quickest, Fastest & Most Powerful Vipers”, and after seeing their latest creation, I have no reason to doubt that claim. The 2007 Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT is a force to be reckoned with, featuring 1000 hp and 1100 lb-ft of torque from the 8.4 liter (522 cubic inch) stroker motor.

With 0-60 times of 2.9 seconds, 0-100 times of 5.8 seconds, and a top speed of 255 mph, the number of cars that will outperform this beast can be counted on a single finger. Power comes from twin Garrett ball bearing turbos and a host of other engine tweaks including a front mounted air-to-air intercooler. Aesthetic modifications include a VenomAero body kit comprised of a front airdam, rear diffuser and a spoiler.

Traction (or what’s left of it) is improved with a lowered suspension featuring adjustable coil over shocks, a Brembo upgraded brake system, a differential upgrade, and Hennessey Venom 7R forged aluminum wheels (19×10 in the front, 20×13 in the rear) sporting Michelin Pilot tires.

Inside, you’re treated to Connelly leather seats, 5-point racing harnesses, a DVD navigation system, and custom floor mats. They even throw in a 2 year, 24,000-mile warranty (though it probably doesn’t cover the damage you’ll do when you park it around a tree). Thankfully, to aid in your survival, each purchase comes with a 1-day private track session with famed instructor Brian Smith (who, being a Viper test pilot, might just have the best job in the world). If looks to kill for and performance to die for don’t get your heart pumping, just consider the fact that you’re getting better performance than a Bugatti Veyron for 1/7 the price. At just $225,000, you better hurry your little millionaire ass off though, as they’re only going to let 24 lucky buyers in on the chance to solidify their place in the automotive history books.
