…Faces look funny upside-down?

Continuing the theme of interesting photo techniques, this one involves putting parts of a face on your chin and then taking an upside-down photo of your face:

…It’s Things Thursday: Hotwicks?

Hotwicks

If mountain breezes, lilac mornings, and heavenly honeysuckle aren’t exactly your preferred scents when it comes to candles, then perhaps you should check out Hotwicks, a company that wants to make “one of a kind candles that remind you of cool things”.

What types of cool things?

Try Beer, Campfires, Dryer Sheets, Hippies, Pancakes , Urinal Cakes, Strippers, Pigskin and more.

In addition to these scents, you can also combine scents for a whole theme of aroma.

Take beer for example:

BEER + STRIPPER + COFFEE = BACHELOR PARTY
BEER + GRASS + CAMPFIRE = CAMPING TRIP
    BEER + GRASS + PIGSKIN = GAMEDAY
BEER + CAMPFIRE + HIPPIE = DRUM CIRCLE

Does it get any better than that?

…Nike is now selling lobsters?

Nike Concepts Lobsters

These Nike SB/Concepts collaboration shoes are amazing!

Themed after the lobster, these Dunk Lows are done up in lobster red leather, table cloth pattern lining, and a rubber band around the toe.

To complete the theme, they even come in a lobster trap box with the size printed on the size as a number of pounds.

I’m agreeing with Kitsune Noir on this one: Even if it is a ridiculous idea, the execution is so well thought out that it actually works.

Available exclusively at Concepts.

…It’s Things Thursday: Jawbone?

Jawbone

Except for a lack of loud, the Aliph Jawbone has always been the best Bluetooth headset around.

So how do you make the best even better?

Simple: Release a beautifully themed line of limited edtions.

Called Sweet Talk, Dirty Talk, and Trash Talk (gold, black and white respectively) they each have a design that smoothes out the usual Jawbone dimples, and features ‘hieroglyphics’ to match the description.

Which one are you?

…36 Exposures is a challenge?

36 Exposures

What can you do with just one roll?

36 Exposures wants to find out, and has created the 36 Exposures Challenge to put photo and creative skills to the test.

Unlike a digital camera, where you can shoot away and then just pick the ones that you like later, film cameras had an element of choice involved that meant each photo had to serve a purpose; thus, creating “conscious intentionality”.

To bring back that idea, FILE challenged artists to articulate a concept, project, or theme, and then use a camera to photograph the images to accompany it with only one roll of film.

Though the contest deadline has passed, it’s definitely an interesting idea that could serve as inspiration for your own ‘one roll story’, and I’m sure the submissions will be impressive, so bookmark the site and be sure to go back, because you never know what one roll can do.

…DYH is back again?

Apparently, in addition to causing a DNS error that gave DYH a wonderful Error 500 Internal Server Error front page for a few days, it looks like my web hosting company was also kind enough to corrupt my Wordpress install as well, which means I just spent the last 6 hours updating Wordpress, which means that I then had to update my K2 theme install so that it would play nicely with the newly installed Wordpress, which means that I had to update my custom K2 theme so that it would play nicely with the newly installed K2, which means that I’m not exactly happy with my web hosting company right now.

Because of this whole endeavor, I’m definitely going to be switching soon though, so once I do, get ready for a revealing and then a thorough bad mouthing of my current host. Anyone have any suggestions for a new one?

Unfortunately, this unexpected delay has also set back my triumphant return by a few hours, but it looks like everything is running somewhat smoothly for now, so expect a return to normalcy by the end of today (hopefully).

Thanks to everyone for sticking with me through this trying time, and I’m looking forward to what DYH has in store for ‘08, so I hope you are too.

…Your BlackBerry is jealous of Apple?

bPhone

If you love the look of the iPhone, but can’t give up the functionality of your CrackBerry, then give it a bit of iStyle with the bPhone theme.

The bPhone features icons that have been pulled directly from the Apple theme, custom icons to match, a dark glass top banner, a Macified signal and battery indicator, an OS X beachball ‘busy’ indicator, and a liberal use of gray and blue.

It might not add multi-touch, but at least you can pretend…

…Tesla had tallent?

What do you do with a tesla coil, talent, and time? Program it to play the Super Mario Bros. theme, of course. Apparently:

This is a solid-state Tesla coil. The primary runs at its resonant frequency in the 41 KHz range, and is modulated from the control unit in order to generate the tones you hear.

Though I’m not sure what that means exactly, I do know that electronic music will never be the same.
