…Go-karts need more power?

Hayabusa Kart

There are two recipes for fast:

  1. Power + Power = Fast
  2. Power – Weight = Fast

While the Bugatti Veyron is obviously king of the former, a much smaller competitor is trying to become the king of the latter: The Hayabusa Kart.

By taking a shifter cart chassis and strapping on 1,300 cc’s of Suzuki Hayabusa power, the power to weight ratio goes through the roof, and the end result is a kart that wants to do little more than fly forward in a straight line.

Sure, it doesn’t turn, it doesn’t handle bumps very well, and it’s probably not street legal, but who wants to worry about all of those things when you could be out roasting the tires off of a kart with a deadly amount of ground only an inch away?

…It’s Things Thursday: Clarkson Supercar Showdown?

I would gladly trade ten years off of the end of my life to be Jeremy Clarkson for a day.

Why?

Jeremy Clarkson - Supercar ShowdownBecause the man gets handed the keys to some of the most exclusive cars in the world, and then gets paid to drive them. Hard.

We’re talkin’ tire smoking, opposite locking, pedal to the floor hard; and then some. Top Gear must have to have a separate budget just for the rubber they go through each episode.

Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini; if it costs more than a house, then chances are, Jeremy has been behind the wheel.

Which is why I can’t wait to pick up a copy of his new film, Supercar Showdown. In it, Clarkson road and track tests some of the most expensive supercars currently roaming the roads. Models include the Ferrari 430 Spider and 599 GTB Fiorano, Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago Roadsters, Bugatti Veyron, Audi R8, Porsche 911 GT3, Radical SR3, Aston Martin V8 Roadster and Ascari A10.

If a laundry list of the automotive elite isn’t enough to tempt you, then just check out this:

See what I mean?

It’s available November 5.

…The SSC Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo is fast?

SSC Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo

After a few failed attempts, the SSC (Shelby Super Cars) Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo finally managed to break the production car world speed record; taking the title away from the Koenigsegg CCR (and away from the Bugatti Veyron’s unofficial top speed) with an average speed of 255.83 mph.

Having 1183 horses on tap (and 1094 ft-lbs of torque) definitely helped to reach those monumental numbers, and the test driver said “there is tons left on the table”.

Does this mean a second attempt is in order to solidify the record?

We’ll have to wait and see.

Shotgun.

…The 2-20 Club is no longer a secret?

2-20 Club Logo

Lost track of how many zeros are at the end of the numbers in your bank account?

Forgot that bills come in sizes smaller then one hundred?

Mastered the universe?

Then you may get offered admission into one of the world’s most exclusive (and expensive) clubs.

How exclusive?

Membership is capped at 20, and only 11 members have made the cut so far.

How expensive?

Try £100,000 up front, followed by £1,000,000 per year just to retain your membership.

So what does that kind of cash buy you?

How about yachts (they’ve got two hundred-footers), helicopters (they’ve got a pair), jets (they’ve got four, including a Gulfstream G5), and more?

More?

Well since you asked: Five star travel, a Bugatti Veyron, a collection of exotic autos, private islands, and access to just about any club or event that you can imagine (think anything Vegas, sporting events, award shows, parties and more).

Plus, there’s a team of researchers, operations managers, logistic managers, transport managers, global operations managers, account managers, asset managers, and consultants on hand at all times to meet your every need.

Not enough?

Then check out what you get when the paperwork finally clears:

2-20 Club Partner Pack

The membership card and the box are made form aerospace grade titanium, the box is covered in Japanese urushi lacquer, and the Centre of Membership tag features metal crafted form a decommissioned space rocket.

Ready to join?

Not so fast. Members must first be nominated by a current member, then seconded, then interviewed before even being considered for a spot.

So what’s this all about then?

Called the 2-20 Club, it’s an asset and contact sharing partnership for the best of the best hedge fund managers around the world, often known simply as ‘Masters of the Universe’.

What does it take to become a master?

Cash, and lots of it.

The name 2-20 comes from the source of that cash, as 2 and 20 is the standard fee arrangement in the hedge fund industry. Managers make 2 percent of assets under their control, and 20 percent of profits after a predetermined benchmark has been met.

If that sounds like a lot of dough, then you’re right, because it is.

With top managers making profits in the billions, 20 percent adds up quickly, and you’ll soon find yourself on a Forbes list spending Franklins like he’s going out of style. (Combined assets of the group are an estimated quarter of a trillion dollars!)

But here’s the thing: You shouldn’t even know about the 2-20 Club.

That’s because until recently, the club was a secret society, carefully shielded from the curious eyes of the world around it.

Why then, are you hearing about it now?

Well, unfortunately for the club, one potential inductee had already wired his £1,000,000 fee when a party that he was hosting on one of the club’s yachts got a little out of hand, and the six figure damage that he caused was not looked kindly upon by current members. (Estimates of the damage are in excess of £650,000.) The club decided to revoke his membership, and he decided to reveal the club to the general public.

Rather then let him run rampant with the story, twisting it into his own version of the truth, 2-20 contacted DYH and decided to break the story first.

So here it is; the world’s first sneak peak into the lives of the super rich.

Ready to join? Then have that black American Express card waiting, because a chance like this doesn’t come around often. (Or, for most people, ever.)

…It’s Movie Monday: Supercars?

Ok, I’ll admit it. This ‘movie’ doesn’t exactly have the regular criteria that I’m looking for (plot, characters, ninjas, canons, etc.). However, it does have moving images, and that’s good enough for me.

What kind of moving images? How about ones that depict Autocar testing a Bugatti Veyron, an Audi R8, an Aston Martin DB9, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, and then burning through sets of tires like they’re supposed to? Mmmm, tires.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: SSC Ultimate Aero TT?

SSC Ultimate Aero

SSC might only have one model, but what they lack in variety, they make up for in heart. That’s because SSC wants to challenge the big boy and take on the Bugatti Veyron for the title of World’s Fastest Production Car. Their pride and joy, the Ultimate Aero TT, isn’t just some kit car with a prayer though; it’s a low-slung beast with power to spare.

Features include 1183 horsepower coming from the twin turbo V8, rear wheel drive, carbon fiber body, 14” brakes, a .357 drag coefficient, and a one-year, unlimited mile warranty (no, really). The end result is a rocket to 60 in 2.78 seconds, a quarter mile time of 9.90 seconds at 144 mph, 1.05 gs on the skidpad, and the ability to go from 0 to 100 to 0 again in 11.66 seconds.

So how did it do on its high speed test run? Not too bad considering the run was cut short by snow! The driver managed 230 mph with just 56% of 6th gear’s throttle, and felt that there was “a lot more to go”. There better be, because the current record is 253 mph (as verified by Top Gear). I’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the progress that gets made towards the record, but until then, make sure to:

  1. Check out the site and ogle a few of the pictures
  2. Catch the car on Spike TV’s Bullrun
  3. Stand in front of it if Eddie Griffin gets behind the wheel.

…The Bugatti Veyron is beautiful?

The Bugatti Veyron is in a class all its own. 1001 horsepower, 16 cylinders and 4 turbos, just to name a few of the in your dreams features. Though this making of video is in a language that I unfortunately don’t understand, I do understand the universal language of love, and I do love the Veyron. Whether you understand what’s being said or not, the visuals and the audials are enough to get the point across, this is no ordinary car.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Hennessey?

Hennessey Engine

Hennessey is the self-proclaimed “Home of the World’s Quickest, Fastest & Most Powerful Vipers”, and after seeing their latest creation, I have no reason to doubt that claim. The 2007 Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT is a force to be reckoned with, featuring 1000 hp and 1100 lb-ft of torque from the 8.4 liter (522 cubic inch) stroker motor.

Hennessey Front

Hennessey Rear

With 0-60 times of 2.9 seconds, 0-100 times of 5.8 seconds, and a top speed of 255 mph, the number of cars that will outperform this beast can be counted on a single finger. Power comes from twin Garrett ball bearing turbos and a host of other engine tweaks including a front mounted air-to-air intercooler. Aesthetic modifications include a VenomAero body kit comprised of a front airdam, rear diffuser and a spoiler.

Hennessey Wheel

Traction (or what’s left of it) is improved with a lowered suspension featuring adjustable coil over shocks, a Brembo upgraded brake system, a differential upgrade, and Hennessey Venom 7R forged aluminum wheels (19×10 in the front, 20×13 in the rear) sporting Michelin Pilot tires.

Hennessey Interior

Inside, you’re treated to Connelly leather seats, 5-point racing harnesses, a DVD navigation system, and custom floor mats. They even throw in a 2 year, 24,000-mile warranty (though it probably doesn’t cover the damage you’ll do when you park it around a tree). Thankfully, to aid in your survival, each purchase comes with a 1-day private track session with famed instructor Brian Smith (who, being a Viper test pilot, might just have the best job in the world). If looks to kill for and performance to die for don’t get your heart pumping, just consider the fact that you’re getting better performance than a Bugatti Veyron for 1/7 the price. At just $225,000, you better hurry your little millionaire ass off though, as they’re only going to let 24 lucky buyers in on the chance to solidify their place in the automotive history books.
