…Weezer likes pork and beans?

Apparently someone in Weezer knows a thing or two about viral marketing, because their video for Pork and Beans, which features many of the Internet’s most famous viral video stars doing what they do best, has been passed around the Internet like the plague this past week. In case you missed it:

…The Bubble is back?

Here Comes Another Bubble was a fantastically viral video about the Web 2.0 bubble that was taken down recently by a San Francisco photographer’s DMCA take-down notice over her ’stolen’ image.

Thankfully, that photographer’s photo has been removed, and the video is back as v1.1:

Unfortunately for The Richter Scales, the group behind the video, their 15 minutes hasn’t exactly been profitable:

In the week Version 1.0 was up, we sold only eight CDs of previously recorded music. That’s one CD sold per 125,000 viewers of the video. If this rate holds, the “profits” from CD sales will equal the $355 we spent making the video when Version 1.1 gets its 3.5 millionth view.

I guess DMCA notices don’t necessarily need to be correlated to lost compensation!

…Mark Erickson knows Google’s secrets?

Mark Erickson and his “Infinite Solutions” is trying to become the next viral video star with his YouTube documentation of the process required to sign up for the so secret even Google doesn’t know about it version of Google Television Beta. With everyone desperately hoping for some truth to the rumor (myself included), the video raced down the Internet’s tubes like a roaring river, prompting many people to try the elaborate steps required to get an invite (myself not included). In response to the numerous claims that the video was a fraud, Mark even posted a second video showing the mythical program once again, though once again hiding crucial details with creative editing choices.

Though I do think TV is heading to the Internet (See my 2007 predictions), this unfortunately isn’t it. Good try though Mark, I will give you credit where credit is due for your amazing editing skills.

…Crazy things fit in a blender?

Will It Blend?

Will It Blend is a series of viral videos made by Blendtec to promote their Total Blender by seeing what the thing will blend. So far, the Total Blender has successful taken down 50 marbles, an entire Coke can, a movie night, golf balls, 40 pens, and a variety of other “don’t try this at home” items. There’s just something about a low production quality video with 80s background music shot infomercial style that holds a kind of allure. Next up: Will it blend other blenders?
