One of the more useful features that’s built right into OSX but most likely remains unknown to a majority of users is a service called Summarize. To activate Summarize:
- Highlight text within a Cocoa app (if you want to Summarize text from a non Cocoa app, just copy the text into TextEdit).
- Click on the program name in the menu bar.
- Go down to the Services section.
- Click on “Summarize”.
The program uses keywords and phrases to put a surprisingly accurate summary of the text together, and you can pretend that you have your very own office assistant to do your bidding.
