…F1 is tearing up the rule book?

Red Bull RB5

In 2009, F1 will be significantly altering the rulebook to ‘spice up the racing’ and bring back some of the fun and excitement that the sport has long been missing.

If reading through a long list of rules doesn’t sound like your idea of an enjoyable day, then check out this fantastic animation from Red Bull that describes their new RB5, and gives you a good idea of what the new rules mean for car design and F1 in general:

…St. Pauli has a new Girl, and her name is Katarina Van Derham?

St Pauli Girl Katarina Van Derham

After what must have been a very long and grueling search, St. Pauli has finally found their St. Pauli Girl for 2009, and it’s a “successful print and TV model” named Katarina Van Derham.

In case you were worried that the St. Pauli Girl was going to be anything less than perfect, just be happy to know that Katarina is 5’6” tall with blonde hair and blue-green eyes, is fluent in five languages including English, Slovak, Czech, Russian and Polish, has modeled for Vogue, Marie Claire, FHM and Iron Man, has been featured in ad campaigns for AT&T, Bicycle Casino, Rockstar Energy Drink and Dodge, is trained in Krav Maga, a military self-defense technique, enjoys kick-boxing, wrestling and playing basketball, volleyball and table tennis, and when she’s not modeling, she’s developing her own make-up line and working on architectural graphic design.

Oh, and she looks good in a Bavarian Beer Girl costume. (Holding Photoshopped beers if you look closely at the image above.)

For the 2009 Winter X Games, Superfad and The Martin Agency worked together to create this fantastic spot called The Spark.

It uses live-action, 3D, Illustration, and stop-motion together to show a trick evolving from its inception in the snow to its thrilling culmination on the course, and is definitely a unique :30 second spot:

…The Wootable Awards are here?

Woot

Sure, CES is filled with plenty of glitz and glam, but what about the rest of the show? It can’t all be the best of the best; can it?

Short answer: No.

Thankfully, Woot is here to save the day by filling that void with The Wootable Awards.

What are the Wootable Awards?

A collection of what people at CES “wind up seeing instead of the wondergadgets they’ve been dreaming of.”

From the Least Impressive Laptop to the Cheapest Exploitation of Patriotism, it’s a collection of the best of the worst, and it’s sure to paint a different picture of CES than what you had imagined.

Are you ready to be blown away by CES 2009?

Woot sure is.

…Engines are amazing?

Corvette ZR1

I always love the exploded engine shot, because I’m always amazed by how much stuff goes into an engine.

The image above is the 2009 Corvette ZR1’s LS9, and gives a glimpse of what 620 horsepower looks like on the inside.

Beautiful.
