…It’s Tuner Tuesday: SSC Ultimate Aero TT?

SSC Ultimate Aero

SSC might only have one model, but what they lack in variety, they make up for in heart. That’s because SSC wants to challenge the big boy and take on the Bugatti Veyron for the title of World’s Fastest Production Car. Their pride and joy, the Ultimate Aero TT, isn’t just some kit car with a prayer though; it’s a low-slung beast with power to spare.

Features include 1183 horsepower coming from the twin turbo V8, rear wheel drive, carbon fiber body, 14” brakes, a .357 drag coefficient, and a one-year, unlimited mile warranty (no, really). The end result is a rocket to 60 in 2.78 seconds, a quarter mile time of 9.90 seconds at 144 mph, 1.05 gs on the skidpad, and the ability to go from 0 to 100 to 0 again in 11.66 seconds.

So how did it do on its high speed test run? Not too bad considering the run was cut short by snow! The driver managed 230 mph with just 56% of 6th gear’s throttle, and felt that there was “a lot more to go”. There better be, because the current record is 253 mph (as verified by Top Gear). I’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the progress that gets made towards the record, but until then, make sure to:

  1. Check out the site and ogle a few of the pictures
  2. Catch the car on Spike TV’s Bullrun
  3. Stand in front of it if Eddie Griffin gets behind the wheel.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Mopar?

Mopar Viper

Mopar Viper Back

Mopar (a conjunction of MOtor and PARts) is the Chrysler Group’s parts and services division, and also responsible for occasionally acting as the brand’s aftermarket performance division. Their latest creation, debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, is a Dodge Viper SRT-10 with an attitude. Under the old mantra “there’s no replacement for displacement”, MOPAR found a monstorous 675 horsepower hiding within their 8.4-liter V10 thanks to better cooling, a cold-air intake, and a variety of other tweaks. In addition to the go fast good stuff, they added adjustable suspension, blacked-out alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber, some nice carbon fiber body appendages, and painted the entire thing in anthracite-gray with a bold red stripe running down the passenger’s side. Venom never looked like so much fun.

…The Aeroblade is one bad bike?

Aeroblade

Aeroblade Wheel

The Aeroblade from Koga-Miyata is so beautiful, it deserves to be mounted on a wall and admired as art rather than sat on by a mere mortal. Produced as a partnership between Koga and Spyker, a small Dutch sports car manufacturer, this limited edition (only 50 will be made) bike features a hand-built titanium frame, sandblasted decals, a 14 speed internal gear hub, hand-built carbon fiber wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, Hulshof Leather grips, saddle and saddlebag, hand-built carbon fiber wheel fairings, and a whole lot of sexy.

…Vertu’s Racetrack Legends phone series is now complete?

Vertu

Nokia’s Vertu, a line of too rich for their own good phones, has just released the Monaco and Nürburgring editions of their Racetrack Legends series. The phones feature carbon fiber and titanium in addition to their phone functions, and mostly just make a statement. Also, there is a boxed set available of all the Racetrack Legends series phones, made of carbon fiber and featuring three drawers to hold the cases and other accessories beneath your phone display. If your phone needs a display, you’ve spent too much.
