…Tetris is now available in HD?

Most things are better in HD, but apparently, Tetris is not one of them:

Tetris HD

Made as more of an art project than as an actual game, Tetris HD will take you longer to play than it’s worth, but if you turn off your monitor and just check back every so often, the designs that result from the random starting position of each piece are at least beautiful to look at in a confusingly poetic sort of way. (Makes me wish they offered the game as a screensaver…)

Just don’t expect to get your name on the high score list any time soon, since the people that are going for that honor are probably still playing at this very moment.

…Flickr now allows you to upload in HD?

Flickr HD

I don’t know if the Internet needs another HD video provider, but regardless, if you’re a Flickr Pro member, you can now upload videos in sweat, sweat HD.

Regular Flickr members can now also upload two videos per week (though not in sweat, sweat HD) so it’s more video goodness for all!

The quality’s not bad either. Check it out:

…It’s Movie Monday: The Simpsons main title?

The Simpsons

After 20 seasons of living in the land of standard definition, The Simpsons made the move to HD last night, and in honor of that change, Fox debuted a new main title sequence, the first change to the intro credits since the show began.

It’s an extended cut, so it’ll probably get trimmed down for subsequent episodes, but there are plenty of hidden gems along the new path, and Simpsons fans will no doubt be digging through all of the references for the next few weeks trying to match them all to their original episode.

Enjoy:

(And if you’d like to watch the full episode, just head on over to Fox’s Fox on Demand service.)

…Rhys Millen and Robbie Maddison did the impossible on New Year’s Eve?

Rhys Millen Backflip

If you missed last night’s Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. event in Las Vegas, then worry not, because Red Bull has kindly uploaded footage from the event to YouTube in HD.

(Side Note: It’s good to see a company finally understand that people want instant access to television content online and in HD so that you don’t have to sift through a bunch of low quality screen grabs that people took of their own TV!)

First, there was Rhys Millen’s truck backflip attempt:

And then Robbie Maddison jumped onto, and then back off of the Arc de Triomphe at the Paris hotel:

Great stuff, and I’m glad to see they both made it out of there (relatively) unscathed!

…It’s Things Thursday: Draganflyer X6?

Draganflyer X6

The Draganflyer X6 “is a remotely operated, unmanned, miniature helicopter designed to carry wireless video cameras and still cameras”.

It’s also one of the most bad-add R/C copters ever made.

Draganflyer X6 Specs

Features include a six rotor co-axial configuration that makes the Draganflyer X6 compact, stable, and powerful, a full carbon fiber folding frame that also makes it light and easy to carry, and 11 on-board sensors that make the X6 the easiest copter to fly in its class, including three gyros, three accelerometers, three magnetometers, one barometric pressure sensor, and one GPS receiver.

Loose radio connection?

No problem; the Draganflyer X6 simply lands itself and waits for you to return.

Loose an engine?

Again, no problem. The Draganflyer is able to continue flying, even with one engine entirely out of commission.

With camera options that range from anti-vibration mounts and digital still camera holds to HD video, low light, thermal infrared and micro video cameras, there’s even a payload option to match every need.

James Bond, eat your heart out.
