…The Sopranos ending has an explanation?

The Sopranos

When The Sopranos ended abruptly in extended darkness, many fans felt slighted by the lack of…well, anything.

However, the “Master of Sopranos” has published what he’s calling the definitive explanation of “The End”, and if there’s more to it than what he manages to drag out of those few precious seconds, then I don’t think I want to know.

Read through for a very exhaustive explanation of what one fan thinks David Chase’s message was, or read the spoiler below if you’d rather not wade through text to get to the good stuff.

(Spoiler: Tony got shot in the head in Holsten’s, and the blackness was Tony’s point of view shot.)

…Socialthing! will manage your online life?

Socialthing!

Socialthing! “is a digital life manager that puts what you do online into one place. See everything that’s going on with your friends in all the sites you use, post stuff to multiple places at once and more!”

Basically, it takes your online life and combines it into one easy to read, follow, and update page. Then, instead of checking each site individually to see new messages, updates, photos, etc., you can just check Socialthing! and see them all in one place. The goal is to make interacting across multiple sites as easy as interacting through just one.

Currently, Socialthing! supports del.icio.us, Digg, Facebook, Flickr, Last.fm, LiveJournal, Pownce, Twitter, Vimeo, and YouTube, with plans for more services as the company expands.

I’ve been beta testing the site for the past few days, and I think the service has some definite possibility. Unfortunately I ran into an issue with adding my Digg profile, but issues are to be expected with any beta release, and I’m sure they’ll have things running smoothly in no time. Everything else loaded without issue though, and I was impressed by the speed with which Socialthing! fetched my data.

Overall, I’d say it’s a useful tool that has the potential to become an indispensable one. Lifestreaming is quickly becoming more popular as everyone tries to manage their vast online world, and Socialthing! is one of the first sites out of the gate, which should give them a jump on adapting and changing to meet users needs with new features and functions.

They should be coming out of beta this weekend, so head on over and give it a try.

…It’s Things Thursday: Fuck This Book?

Fuck This Book

Fuck This Book is a collection of unaltered and untasteful images of “real public signs that have been mischievously altered by stickers bearing the most expressive of all four-letter words”.

What’s the message?

Thankfully, nothing: “This is not social commentary. There is no message. It’s not meant to offend, exploit, or embarrass anyone.”

Instead, it’s just meant to be a juvenile, profane, and timeless look at our lives in a world that has been persuasively transformed.

…Only you can prevent forest fires?

Fake Fire Extinguisher

How do fake fire extinguishers help prevent forest fires?

Simple: The medium is the message.

By installing these wooden fire extinguishers in the Table Mountain National Park, Animal Farm hopes to show that “it is almost impossible to stop a wild fire once it has started”. Thus, “using a real fire extinguisher on one would be as effective as using the wooden one” and “the only way to stop the fires is to prevent them”.

In addition to being a powerful message, the extinguishers were also carved by The Carpenters Shop, a “Non Governmental Organization set up to teach woodwork skills to the homeless and unemployed”; meaning this is an all-around feel good project.

Simple and subtle, yet powerful.

I love it!

…The Hint Ring sends a message?

Hint Ring

If your significant other just doesn’t seem to get it, or if subtlety just isn’t your thing, then the Hint Ring might be the perfect way to get your message heard.

For guys, it’s the perfect placeholder while you’re looking for something bigger and better, and for girls, it’s the perfect way to say “I’m ready, and given the chance, I do.”
