…It’s Tuner Tuesday – Edo Competition?

Maserati MC12 XX

Supercar tuners are few and far between, though I’m guessing it’s mostly due to the price of admission, rather than the lack of desire. When looking at the cars made by manufacturers such as Ferrari and Maserati, there are some who are content with just leaving well enough alone, believing that, with a car this expensive, no expense has been spared. Then, there are those like Edo Competition, who believe that you can never have too much of a good thing. Edo Competition, upset by the fact that Ferrari had the FXX while Maserati had nothing, tuned and tinkered with their own MC12, giving it an additional 170 horses (to tie the FXX’s 800 hp rating), and ending up with the oh so creatively named MC12 XX. Additions include all new engine bits and pieces, adjustable exhaust, ceramic brakes, adjustable suspension, wheels and tires, tire monitoring system, and 100 kg of diet along the way. In addition to the car modifications, Edo Competition is also throwing in one day of track testing with an instructor, knowing that you are probably going to try and do everything possible to rip the car in half form the moment you step into the driver’s seat. As a final point of customization, they’ll even paint it whatever color you choose, though I’d suggest staying away from the trick or treat scheme that they went with for their demo car.

…Pagani is building a super super car?

Pagani Zonda R

Italian Supercar maker Pagani is waging war on the Ferrari FXX with a track tuned version of their Zonda model, called simply the Zonda R. Designed to give “the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety”, it only carries over 10 percent of the parts from their previous model, the Zonda F, with the rest being designed from scratch. Features include a 750 horsepower V12 motor borrowed from the CLK GTR racecar that Mercedes’ AMG division puts together, modified bodywork and aerodynamics, and a general increase in amazing. It’s like a rocket, only faster.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Saleen?

Saleen History

Steve Saleen started out like any other Mustang tuner, adding more horsepower, more handling, more good looks, and more sexy to an already potent platform. Since the mid ‘80s, he’s been testing, tuning and tweaking his cars to get every last bit of performance out of the blue oval.

Saleen S7

Then, in 2000, Saleen did something that few others in the car world have been able to master: he designed and built his own car. The jump from bolting parts onto an existing car to designing your own car from the ground up is huge, but the S7 quickly dominated both the track and the street, proving that Americans can play the supercar game just as well as the Europeans can.

Saleen Mustang

Saleen’s current line-up includes the S7 (with 1000 twin turboed horsepower), the S281 Mustang (including a 550 horsepower Extreme version), the S331 Sport Truck (including a 450 horsepower supercharged version), and the new Parnelli Jones limited edition collaboration Mustang. If it’s fast, and it’s American, chances are, it’s Saleen.

…It’s Movie Monday: Redline?

Redline Poster

Porsche Carrera GT Wreck

They could take out all of the actors and just have a bunch of cars driving around and I still think I’d want to go see Redline. Described as The Fast and The Furious for exotics, this Daniel Sadek creation is a who’s who of the supercar world, including Ferrari, Saleen, Koenigsegg, Ford, Lamborghini, Mercedes, McLaren, and Porsche. Though I’m sure the acting by such greats as Eddie Griffin, Nathan Phillips and Nadia Bjorlin will be nothing short of Oscar worthy, it’s all about the car porn anyways. Plus, they even manage to wreck a perfectly good Porsche Carrera GT at some point in the plot line. Set for a February 23rd release date, this is going to be the car movie of 2007. Fear Nothing, Risk Everything.

…Gemballa makes more than just a Mirage?

The Mirage GT, a 650 hp super supercar from ultimate Porsche tuner Gemballa, is definitely all kinds of sexy. The Black Edition featured above has more power, wheel and interior options than the standard Mirage, and is surely a great way to spend your extra millions. I’ll take two.
